Preference Falsification
Preference falsification - Wikipedia
Sat, 17 Oct 2020 05:09
Preference falsification is the act of communicating a preference that differs from one's true preference. The public frequently convey, especially to researchers or pollsters, preferences that differ from what they truly want, often because they believe the conveyed preference is more acceptable socially. The idea of preference falsification was put forth by the social scientist Timur Kuran in his 1995 book Private Truth, Public Lies as part of his theory of how people's stated preferences are responsive to social influences. It laid the foundation for his theory of why unanticipated revolutions can occur. The concept is related to ideas of social proof as well as choice blindness.
The idea of preference falsification was formalized by social scientist
Timur Kuran in his book
Private Truth, Public Lies in 1997
Original formulation Edit According to the theory, when articulating preferences individuals frequently tailor their choices to what appears socially acceptable. In other words, they convey preferences that differ from what they genuinely want. Kuran calls the resulting misrepresentation "preference falsification". In his 1995 book, Private Truths, Public Lies, he argues that the phenomenon is ubiquitous and that it has huge social and political consequences. These consequences all hinge on interdependencies between individuals' decisions as to what preference to convey publicly. A person who hides his discontent about a fashion, policy, or political regime makes it harder for others to express discontent.
One socially significant consequence of preference falsification is widespread public support for social options that would be rejected decisively in a vote taken by secret ballot. Privately unpopular policies may be retained indefinitely as people reproduce conformist social pressures through individual acts of preference falsification.
In falsifying preferences, people hide the knowledge on which their true preferences rest. In the process, they distort, corrupt, and impoverish the knowledge in the public domain. They make it harder for others to become informed about the drawbacks of existing arrangements and the merits of their alternatives. Another consequence of preference falsification is thus widespread ignorance about the advantages of change. Over long periods, preference falsification can dampen a community's capacity to want change by bringing about intellectual narrowness and ossification.
The first of these consequences is driven by people's need for social approval, the second by their reliance on each other for information.
Kuran has applied these observations to a range of contexts. He has used the theory developed in Private Truths, Public Lies to explain why major political revolutions catch us by surprise, how ethnic tensions can feed on themselves, why India's caste system has been a powerful social force for millennia, and why minor risks sometimes generate mass hysteria.[1]
Academic research Edit Kuran has published a number of papers on the themes of preference falsification (his book Private Truth, Public Lies is based on these papers).[2]
The idea of preference falsification has been studied by a number of social scientists. Economist Robert H. Frank reviewed Timur Kuran's book and offered his own thoughts on the political economy of preference falsification.[3] William Davis considered preference falsification within the economics profession.[4]
According to a 2020 study, the vast majority of young married men in Saudi Arabia express private beliefs in support of women working outside the home but they substantially underestimate the degree to which other similar men support it. Once they become informed about the widespread nature of the support, they increasingly help their wives obtain jobs.[5]

Dear REMOVED,
I want to provide you some very important information. I'm a committee member within the Liberal Party of Canada. I sit within several committee groups but the information I am providing is originating from the Strategic Planning committee (which is steered by the PMO).
I need to start off by saying that I'm not happy doing this but I have to. As a Canadian and more importantly as a parent who wants a better future not only for my children but for other children as well. The other reason I am doing this is because roughly 30% of the committee members are not pleased with the direction this will take Canada, but our opinions have been ignored and they plan on moving forward toward their goals. They have also made it very clear that nothing will stop the planned outcomes.
The road map and aim was set out by the PMO and is as follows:
– Phase in secondary lock down restrictions on a rolling basis, starting with major metropolitan areas first and expanding outward. Expected by November 2020.
– Rush the acquisition of (or construction of) isolation facilities across every province and territory. Expected by December 2020.
– Daily new cases of COVID-19 will surge beyond capacity of testing, including increases in COVID related deaths following the same growth curves. Expected by end of November 2020.
– Complete and total secondary lock down (much stricter than the first and second rolling phase restrictions). Expected by end of December 2020 – early January 2021
– Reform and expansion of the unemployment program to be transitioned into the universal basic income program. Expected by Q1 2021.
– Projected COVID-19 mutation and/or co-infection with secondary virus (referred to as COVID-21) leading to a third wave with much higher mortality rate and higher rate of infection. Expected by February 2021.
– Daily new cases of COVID-21 hospitalizations and COVID-19 and COVID-21 related deaths will exceed medical care facilities capacity. Expected Q1 – Q2 2021.
– Enhanced lock down restrictions (referred to as Third Lock Down) will be implemented. Full travel restrictions will be imposed (including inter-province and inter-city). Expected Q2 2021.
– Transitioning of individuals into the universal basic income program. Expected mid Q2 2021.
– Projected supply chain break downs, inventory shortages, large economic instability. Expected late Q2 2021.
– Deployment of military personnel into major metropolitan areas as well as all major roadways to establish travel checkpoints. Restrict travel and movement. Provide logistical support to the area. Expected by Q3 2021.
Along with that provided road map the Strategic Planning committee was asked to design an effective way of transitioning Canadians to meet a unprecedented economic endeavor. One that would change the face of Canada and forever alter the lives of Canadians. What we were told was that in order to offset what was essentially an economic collapse on a international scale, that the federal government was going to offer Canadians a total debt relief. This is how it works: the federal government will offer to eliminate all personal debts (mortgages, loans, credit cards, etc) which all funding will be provided
to Canada by the IMF under what will become known as the World Debt Reset program. In exchange for acceptance of this total debt forgiveness the individual would forfeit ownership of any and all property and assets forever. The individual would also have to agree to partake in the COVID-19 and COVID-21 vaccination schedule, which would provide the individual with unrestricted travel and unrestricted living even under a full lock down (through the use of photo identification referred to as Canada's HealthPass) .
Committee members asked who would become the owner of the forfeited property and assets in that scenario and what would happen to lenders or financial institutions, we were simply told "the World Debt Reset program will handle all of the details". Several committee members also questioned what would happen to individuals if they refused to participate in the World Debt Reset program, or the HealthPass, or the vaccination schedule, and the answer we got was very troubling. Essentially we were told it was our duty to make sure we came up with a plan to ensure that would never happen. We were told it was in the individuals best interest to participate. When several committee members pushed relentlessly to get an answer we were told that those who refused would first live under the lock down restrictions indefinitely. And that over a short period of time as more Canadians transitioned into the debt forgiveness program, the ones who refused to participate would be deemed a public safety risk and would be relocated into isolation facilities. Once in those facilities they would be given two options, participate in the debt forgiveness program and be released, or stay indefinitely in the isolation facility under the classification of a serious public health risk and have all their assets seized.
So as you can imagine after hearing all of this it turned into quite the heated discussion and escalated beyond anything I've ever witnessed before. In the end it was implied by the PMO that the whole agenda will move forward no matter who agrees with it or not. That it wont just be Canada but in fact all nations will have similar roadmaps and agendas. That we need to take advantage of the situations before us to promote change on a grander scale for the betterment of everyone. The members who were opposed and ones who brought up key issues that would arise from such a thing were completely ignored. Our opinions and concerns were ignored. We were simply told to just do it.
All I know is that I don't like it and I think its going to place Canadians into a dark future.

Kids being taught SJW crap
I've always told the kids to let me know when they are being pushed any sort of SJW propaganda. My daughter has shown me some videos their Grade 7 teacher had them watch from an organization called "conservation.org". Videos of Mother Nature and such telling them they're all going to die.
Going to the "conservation.org" website, a trick I learned from you, shows me that its filled with Globalist Elites from such ecological friendly companies Like Northrop Grumman, Walmart, The Gap, and various Investment companies and banks betting on "Green" Economies. I had to have that conversation with the kids about the reason they are being shown this tripe is to manipulate them into becoming eco-warrior cannon fodder to increase the profits of those who serve on the board of foundations like "conservation.org".

"Ultra" Orthodox
Hi John & Adam,
I was just listening to the first hour of episode 1287.
In this part Adam goes on a rant the includes the NY governor local curfew over 9 specific communities.
Adam seems to be upset with the phrase "ultra Orthodox" but I wanted to mention it is true, and it is also used to describe these communities here in Israel.
Short explanation
Israel has about 20% religious jews in its population.
The current claim is that most of these 20% followed the social distancing and curfew rules.
However some specific ultra religious / ultra orthodox communities (located in Jerusalem and Bnei Brak mostly) decided not to follow the regulation
Specifically it means crowded synagogue gatherings and such and very high infection rates.
There are several reasons for this:
Only following the religion to the letter will provide safety from the virus
These communities are very young (due to high birth rate) and as a result to do not see much death from COVID.
So, in fact, the religious leaders of these groups decided to develop group immunity for their community.
Here in Israel there is now a discussion for releasing us from the 2nd curfew/stay@home period.
However, due to the political power of the religious and ultra religious parties the government is unable to enforce local curfews like Cuomo did.

Hoezo moeten ook de restaurants dicht? | Columns & Opinie | Telegraaf.nl
Sat, 17 Oct 2020 19:26
Zoon haalt opgelucht adem.
Zoiets?

Gov. Newsom Limits Gatherings to Three Families, Two Hours Or Less, No Singing - California Globe
Sun, 18 Oct 2020 11:34
It's clearly past time to make George Orwell fiction again.
Gov. Gavin Newsom and his California Department of Public Health issued another ''new'' set of social distancing guidelines prohibiting gatherings that include more than three households at any time.
The Oct. 9 document, ''Mandatory Requirements for All Gatherings,'' explains that all private gatherings must limit the number of attendees and are required to be held outside.
''Gatherings are defined as social situations that bring together people from different households at the same time in a single space or place. When people from different households mix, this increases the risk of transmission of COVID-19.''
Despite the The World Health Organization's special envoy on COVID-19 urging world leaders this week to stop ''using lockdowns as your primary control method,'' the governor continues to discuss at his daily press conferences the people with ''infections,'' or ''cases.'' But these are not ''cases;'' actual practicing medical doctors refer to ''cases'' as those in the hospital, in the ICU, or those who have died as a result of COVID-19.
California's COVID-19 numbers tell the rest of the story:
16,191,341 COVID-19 tests given850,028 people tested positive for COVID-1915,341,313 people tested negative for COVID-1916,572 deaths attributed to COVID-19California's total population is 39,512,000 millionCalifornia has a 0.04% mortality rate for COVID.
Unsure of the details telling Californians just how to gather with friends?
The CDPH explains:
Keep it short
Gatherings should be two hours or less. The longer the duration, the risk of transmission increases.Rules for Singing, Chanting, and Shouting at Outdoor Gatherings
Singing, chanting, shouting, and physical exertion significantly increases the risk of COVID-19 transmission because these activities increase the release of respiratory droplets and fine aerosols into the air. Because of this, singing, chanting, and shouting are strongly discouraged, but if they occur, the following rules and recommendations apply:All people who are singing or chanting should wear a face covering at all times while singing or chanting, including anyone who is leading a song or chant. Because these activities pose a very high risk of COVID-19 transmission, face coverings are essential to reduce the spread of respiratory droplets and fine aerosols;People who are singing, shouting, chanting, or exercising are strongly encouraged to maintain physical distancing beyond 6 feet to further reduce risk.People who are singing or chanting are strongly encouraged to do so quietly (at or below the volume of a normal speaking voice).Instrumental music is allowed as long as the musicians maintain at least 6-foot physical distancing. Musicians must be from one of the three households. Playing of wind instruments (any instrument played by the mouth, such as a trumpet or clarinet) is strongly discouraged.Be sure to stay away from those dreaded wind instruments. As for requiring gatherings two hours or less because ''the longer the duration, the risk of transmission increases,'' this is totally arbitrary. And do riots and protests count as ''gatherings?'' Should they also be limited to ''three families, two hours or less, no singing, no shouting?''
Gov. Newsom's rules are sounding eerily like a chapter out of George Orwell's Animal Farm: ''All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.''
As California Globe reported last week, more than 30,000 medical practitioners and medical & public health scientists recently released a letter called the Great Barrington Declaration, telling politicians who continue to keep people in lockdown, they are causing more health issues and deaths than COVID-19:
''Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health.''
''Schools and universities should be open for in-person teaching. Extracurricular activities, such as sports, should be resumed. Young low-risk adults should work normally, rather than from home. Restaurants and other businesses should open. Arts, music, sport and other cultural activities should resume. People who are more at risk may participate if they wish, while society as a whole enjoys the protection conferred upon the vulnerable by those who have built up herd immunity.''
The most compassionate approach that balances the risks and benefits of reaching herd immunity, is to allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally to build up immunity to the virus through natural infection, while better protecting those who are at highest risk. We call this Focused Protection.''
While Gov. Newsom continues to convolute and extend the state's COVID guidelines, killing off more businesses, the Great Barrington Declaration doctors say he is also putting more of the state's residents ''at risk for lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health '' leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden. Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice.''
Person in Spin Class Triggers a COVID-19 Outbreak at Studio | Health.com
Sun, 18 Oct 2020 12:20
The visitor who caused the outbreak was asymptomatic.
A spin studio in Hamilton, Ontario, that reopened in July, has claimed responsibility for 61 new COVID-19 cases in the region, CNN reports.
The studio, called SPINCO, had established safety protocols upon reopening, including requiring guests to wear masks before and after class, screening clients and staff members, keeping records of everyone who attended a class, cleaning the studio after each class, and washing sweat towels, per CNN.
However, after one person infected with COVID-19'--but not showing any symptoms of the virus'--attended a class, many more positive cases followed. Specifically, 44 primary cases and 17 secondary cases were reported. Up to 100 people'--including SPINCO employees, other clients, and family members of people who visited the studio'--have now been exposed to the coronavirus as a result of that one asymptomatic visitor.

Public health officials said in a statement to CNN that the size of the outbreak was concerning, given the fact that Hamilton wasn't previously considered a COVID-19 hotspot. Officials also pointed out that SPINCO had been following safety guidelines'--which makes the outbreak all the more concerning.
The studio shared the details of the outbreak in a recent Instagram caption, which says: ''When we got the green light to reopen in July, like everyone we were hesitant, but we took all the measures public health offered, even added a few, and still the pandemic struck us again! It started September 28 and spread amongst specific classes until October 5th.''

Health previously reported that the reopening of gyms during the pandemic was risky, at best. ''From a biologic and physiologic perspective, it's a bad idea,'' Gavis Harris, MD, an infectious disease physician and critical care medicine fellow at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center previously told Health. He explained that since COVID-19 can spread through respiratory droplets and last on surfaces for multiple days, and given that gyms are enclosed spaces that would presumably be shared by multiple gym-goers at a time, ''the risk of exposure is exceptionally high.''
The SPINCO studio closed as soon as the outbreak was identified and notified all those who had been exposed, the Instagram post says. ''As of today, everyone who has tested positive, are well,'' it adds.

Russia spreads fake news claiming Oxford coronavirus vaccine will turn people into MONKEYS | Daily Mail Online
Sun, 18 Oct 2020 12:48
A smear campaign has been launched in Russia to discredit the coronavirus vaccine developed by Oxford University scientists.
It aims to spread fear about the vaccine with ridiculous claims that it will turn people into apes because it uses a chimpanzee virus.
Images and video clips suggesting any vaccine made in the UK would be dangerous are circulating on Russian social media.
Some were shown on the Russian TV programme Vesti News, said to be the country's equivalent of the BBC's Newsnight.

Only 'slim' chance front-runner Oxford candidate will be ready before Christmas There is only a 'slim' chance Oxford University's coronavirus jab will be ready to go before Christmas, the government's vaccine tsar admitted today.
As cases and hospital admissions surge in Britain, chair of the UK Vaccine Taskforce Kate Bingham said she is hopeful that trials will show signs of success by the end of the year but warned there is no guarantee.
Oxford's jab, which works by transporting a fragment of the coronavirus into the body on-board another virus, is the global front-runner in the bid to stop the disease.
Early data from clinical trials suggest the vaccine is safe for people to receive and appears to trigger the correct type of immune response.
Hopes for ending the pandemic currently hinge on finding a jab that works as soon as possible. Without a vaccine or a cure '' neither of which yet exist '' there is no way to stop Covid-19.
Ms Bingham's comments come after England's chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, suggested last month the most vulnerable people in England could start receiving the vaccine before the end of 2020, with a wider public roll-out next year.
Ms Bingham, who was a biotech investor before being drafted in to help develop a vaccine for coronavirus, said: 'I think it's a slim chance, but there is a chance, that we could have the Oxford vaccine before Christmas.'
The Oxford jab is currently in phase three trials, which are the final stage experiments done on a huge group of people to prove whether it works.
It has already proven to be safe in earlier tests on small groups and has now been given to more than 30,000 people in the UK, US, Brazil and South Africa.
America's Uncle Sam appears in another crude image with the message: 'I want you '' to take the monkey vaccine'.
The campaign has the potential to damage the Oxford programme by appealing to anti-vaccine fanatics.
It is aimed to hit sales in countries where Russia wants to sell its own Sputnik V jab.
Last night, AstraZeneca's chief executive Pascal Soriot condemned attempts to undermine their work, while this morning Professor Andrew Pollard, the director of the Oxford Vaccine Group, also hit out.
Professor Pollard, who is professor of Paediatric Infection and Immunity at the University of Oxford, told BBC Radio Four's today programme: 'In this context we are in at the moment, any misinformation, where we are trying to think of an intervention that we can have in the future to help the pandemic, whether they are treatments or vaccine, anything that undermines that could be extremely dangerous.
'The type vaccine we have is very very similar to a number of other vaccines, including the Russian vaccine, all of which use the Common Cold virus from humans or from chimpanzees.
'To our bodies, the viruses look the same.
'We don't actually have any chimpanzees involved at all in the process of making the vaccine, because it is all about the virus, rather than animals it might more commonly infect.'
He said that the use of the chimpanzee cold virus was a 'shuttle' to get the genetic material from coronavirus into the vaccine.
'Our bodies doesn't look at the virus and say "this is from a chimpanzee or a human," it just sees a collection of proteins to make an immune response, he added.
Meanwhile, Mr Soriot told The Times: 'Scientists at AstraZeneca and at many other companies and institutions around the world are working tirelessly to develop a vaccine and therapeutic treatments to defeat this virus.
'But it is independent experts and regulatory agencies across the world that ultimately decide if a vaccine is safe and effective before it is approved for use. Misinformation is a clear risk to public health.
'This is especially true during the current pandemic which continues to claim tens of thousands of lives, significantly disrupt the way we live and damage the economy.
'I urge everyone to use reliable sources of information, to trust regulatory agencies and to remember the enormous benefit vaccines and medicines continue to bring to humanity.'
Meanwhile, Doctor Hilary Jones told Good Morning Britain the attempts at disinformation were 'utterly ridiculous and shameful'.
America's Uncle Sam appears in another crude image with the message: 'I want you '' to take the monkey vaccine'
He said: 'Oxford have a very reliable team, remember, that's where penicillin was worked-up and produced for the Second World War.
'Oxford have a fantastic reputation, they are doing this thoroughly and are looking at thousands of people from all different groups and ages.
'They are doing this safely and effectively and for the Russians to try to besmirch what they are trying to do because parts of the vaccine comes from chimpanzee material is utterly ridiculous and shameful.'
He added: 'I would put my money on Oxford every time.'
A whistleblower reportedly said that the aim of the smear was to place the images on Western websites.
British spies 'detected Russian cyber attack on the university involved in coronavirus vaccine after installing security shield British spies were able to detect a Russian cyber attack on a university involved in testing for a coronavirus vaccine after installing a security shield around the facility in July.
Intelligence services feared a possible hacking attempt in March as the pandemic spread throughout the country, as reported by The Times.
A cyber-shield was installed by National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), a division of GCHQ, who later detected an attack from hacker group Cozy Bear, also known as Advanced Persistent Threat 29 and the Dukes.
It is not clear if the group - who are thought to be closely allied to the Russian state - managed to secure any information.
July's attack came days after the UK, US and Canada issued a bombshell joint claiming a hacking group called APT29, also known as Cozy Bear, is engaged in an ongoing campaign of 'malicious activity'.
Security chiefs believe the group is 'almost certainly' operating as part of Russian Intelligence Services, with officials confident the Kremlin has given the green light for the activity.
The three nations believe the purpose of the Russian attacks is to steal intellectual property so that Moscow can develop a coronavirus vaccine first or at least at the same time as the UK, US and Canada.
Targets have included Oxford University and Imperial College London, which are undertaking world-leading work to develop a vaccine. Security sources said the sophisticated espionage attacks were authorised at the 'highest levels' of the Russian regime, and may have been ordered by Vladimir Putin himself.
Paul Chichester, director of operations at the National Cyber Security Centre, urged organisations involved in coronavirus research to shore up their defences.
He added: 'We condemn these despicable attacks against those doing vital work to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
'Working with our allies, the NCSC is committed to protecting our most critical assets and our top priority at this time is to protect the health sector.'
The campaign began over a month ago after a volunteer in the Oxford trial fell ill meaning the project was temporarily halted.
Countries such as India and Brazil, where Russia was trying to market its own vaccine, have been targeted by the campaign, the whistleblower told the Times.
It is not clear if the propaganda attempt was directly authorised by the Kremlin.
However, a spokesperson for the Russian embassy told the Times: 'The suggestion that the Russian state may conduct any kind of propaganda against the Astrazeneca vaccine is itself an example of disinformation.
'It is obviously aimed at discrediting Russia's efforts in combating the pandemic, including the good cooperation we have established with the UK in this field.'
In July, British spies were able to detect a Russian cyber attack on the Oxford coronavirus vaccine computers after installing a security shield around the facility.

This week it was also revealed that there is only a 'slim' chance Oxford University's coronavirus jab will be ready to go before Christmas.
Chair of the UK Vaccine Taskforce Kate Bingham said she is hopeful that trials will show signs of success by the end of the year but warned there is no guarantee.
Sputnik V vaccine - the Adenovirus vaccine which is based on largely same principles as Oxford's The Sputnik V vaccine is being marketed on its website as the 'first registered Covid-19 vaccine on the market'.
It was registered by the Russian Ministry of Health on August 11.
It's name is a nod to the Sputnik space programme, which in 1957 launched the first space satellite by the Soviet Union.
But despite a disinformation campaign from Russia of Oxford's vaccine, the Sputnik V is largely based upon the same principles.
Both are Adenovirus vaccines. Standard vaccines involve injecting an inactivated version of the virus. The immune system then latches onto the outside of the virus, sparking the body to create specific antibodies.
This helps the immune system to learn how to create a response if the real virus enters the body.
But Adenovirus vaccines are different.
Viruses work by attacking cells, before using those pirated cells to replicate itself.
But if it is the first time a virus is seen by the immune system, it often takes time to produce an effective antibody, and the virus can often spread to many cells in that time - making people sick.
Adenoviruses are different, in that they can still attack cells, they do not replicate themselves.
Therefore, scientists can take Covid-19, insert the genetic code which makes its spikes, and insert it into the adenovirus.
The cells then churns out copies of the coronavirus spike, allowing the body to spot and create antibodies for the spike.
The big difference between the Sputnik and Oxford versions is that Russian version of the virus uses an adenovirus that infects humans, while the Oxford one uses an adenovirus that infects chimpanzees.
Oxford's method is used because it increases the chance the body will not interfere with the process of the vaccine being created.
But there is no evidence that using adenovirus from animals will turn people into chimpanzees - in the same way that coronavirus, which is believed to have come from bats, has not turned anyone into a bat.

Health officials raise disinformation concerns with MPP Randy Hillier | CTV News
Sun, 18 Oct 2020 11:36
OTTAWA -- Public health officials in Kingston have sent a letter to Independent MPP Randy Hillier regarding his comments about COVID-19 and assertions the pandemic is overblown.
Hillier, who sits as an independent for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston after being kicked out of the Progressive Conservative caucus, said he is against mandatory masks and has shared a number of questionable posts on social media about the pandemic, including some that are completely false conspiracy theories.
A browse of Hillier's Twitter feeds shows posts indicating public health officials are guilty of crimes against humanity based on restrictions put in place for COVID-19 and one that called Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus with the World Health Organization a liar and criminal.
Hillier's riding straddles two health unit areas in the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington District Health Unit and the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit, and Kingston public health officials said Thursday they have been in contact with Hillier's office about his comments.
"KFL&A Public Health are aware of Mr. Hillier's comments and posts," a spokeswoman said in a statement, noting a letter had recently been sent to Hillier expressing "concerns" about his comments.
"It was mentioned to Mr. Hillier that over the next couple of months, it will be critical to support our community and to share information on how everyone can best protect themselves by wearing a face covering, practicing good hand hygiene, physically distancing, staying home when sick, and avoiding large crowds," the statement said.
"We also mentioned that we need to do this together so that we protect the health of Ontarians and allow our residences to live healthy lives."
While not mentioning Hillier specifically, Dr. Paula Stewart, Chief Medical Officer for Leeds, Grenville and Lanark asked residents to stick to reliable information about the virus.
''There is a lot of misinformation about COVID-19 so I encourage residents to look for credible sources of information like the Public Health Units, Public Health Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of Health, and the Public Health Agency of Canada,'' Stewart said in a statement.
''The science behind COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, so we have seen changes in the recommendations and practices as more information becomes available. The information provided by the Health Unit is based on the latest research evidence.''
During an interview with Newstalk 580 CFRA on Wednesday, Hillier refused to say whether he thought the pandemic was real, said he was anti-mask and likened the current pandemic to a bad flu season.
Hillier's office didn't respond to several phone calls seeking comment on Thursday and Friday but continued to attack the story on social media and posted a defence on his own website Friday morning.
Who's guilty of misinformation?Read the letter that was referred to in this story and judge for yourself- the word ''disinformation'' doesn't even appear in it. Further, I offered my board room to meet with them, they'd be welcome to wear masks. #onpolihttps://t.co/pNPBuUN8ve https://t.co/OuHf3qBjge
'-- Randy Hillier (@randyhillier) October 16, 2020He accused the media of spreading misinformation, not him, despite an avalanche of falsehoods available on his Twitter feed.
He said the word misinformation was not used in the letter he received from Kingston public health officials, despite the copy of the letter he shared showing he was asked to share "reliable information."
Hillier said in his statement he offered to meet with Kingston health officials and discuss their concerns but they were unwilling to meet, "despite my being the elected representative of the people they serve."
"...it's a large board room, allowing for social distancing and of course, they'd be welcome to wear masks."
Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health respond to a request for comment on Hillier's assertions, saying ''KFL&A Public Health are available to virtually meet with local representatives. To reduce the risk of COVID-19 KFL&A Public Health are minimizing meetings in person."

Twitter changes hacking policy after blocking New York Post story on Hunter Biden - The Washington Post
Fri, 16 Oct 2020 08:20
Twitter issued a stunning policy reversal Thursday, changing a rule about hacked materials that resulted in blocking a controversial New York Post story about the alleged emails of Democratic nominee Joe Biden's son.
The link to the New York Post story will still be blocked under a policy that prohibits sharing people's personal information, the company said.
Late Thursday night, Twitter executive Vijaya Gadde tweeted that the company made the decision after receiving ''feedback'' over the past 24 hours that the policy on hacked materials as written could result in undue censorship of journalists and whistleblowers. Going forward, the company will remove content only if it's directly posted by hackers or those acting in concert with them. It will label more questionable tweets.
The late-night move reflected the challenges of real-time decision-making being made by Silicon Valley companies in the name of protecting public discussion during a presidential election that has been marred by disinformation and misleading news. Tech companies are intent on avoiding a repeat of the 2016 election, when their platforms were exploited by Russian operatives. As a result, they have issued a host of new rules and have taken some highly unusual actions, including censoring a major U.S. media company.
''Content moderation is incredibly difficult, especially in the critical context of an election. We are trying to act responsibly & quickly to prevent harms, but we're still learning along the way,'' Gadde, who leads the company's legal, policy, and trust and safety divisions, wrote,
Facebook and Twitter take unusual steps to limit spread of New York Post story
On Wednesday, Twitter blocked the link to the article in which President Trump's personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani and former top adviser Stephen K. Bannon claimed to have obtained and leaked a trove of private materials from Hunter Biden. The leaked documents suggested that at one point he gave a Ukrainian executive the ''opportunity'' to meet the former vice president. The Biden campaign said his schedule indicated no such meeting took place.
The story surged to the top of Twitter's trending topics list before it was censored.
The company said it took the action out of an abundance of caution over the potential that the emails may have been hacked. Twitter has prohibited the posting of hacked materials since 2018. The policy was adopted in response to an incident during the 2016 campaign, when Russia-tied WikiLeaks dumped hacked emails of Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman, John Podesta.
Three weeks before Election Day, Trump allies go after Hunter '-- and Joe '-- Biden
Facebook also demoted the story pending fact-checker review. The company refused to provide a rationale for demoting the reach of the story, which, by late Thursday, was able to garner 1.9 million likes and shares.
The companies' unusual actions drew immediate backlash from the Trump administration and GOP lawmakers, but also drew criticism from journalists and proponents of press freedom as it became clear that the New York Post's behavior, as described in the article, did not appear to run afoul of accepted journalistic practice for obtaining information.
Others praised the companies for being cautious during a critical time.
In addition to censoring the story, Twitter temporarily froze the accounts of White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany's account, as well as the New York Post's, adding notices to their tweets saying they violated Twitter's rules on prohibiting publishing hacked materials. Trump's campaign account was temporarily locked. Had the new rules been in place, it's unclear whether those actions would have been taken.

Emotional texts show Joe Biden comfort son Hunter who calls himself a 'f***ed up addict who can't be trusted' in rehab

HEARTBREAKING texts showed Joe Biden comforting his son Hunter, who calls himself a "f***ed up addict who can't be trusted."
On Friday, the New York Post published the private exchange between Hunter and his 77-year-old dad on February 24, 2019 as Biden prepared to enter the presidential race.

The news comes after Hunter's personal data was leaked 18
'Good morning .... from f***ing rehab,' Hunter wroteRudy Giuliani handed over Hunter's data to the newspaper after a Trump-loving computer repairman leaked the contents of his laptop.
Now, their intimate iMessages have been revealed.
''Good morning my beautiful son. I miss you and love you. Dad,'' Biden told Hunter at 6:57 am.
"Good morning ... from f***ing rehab," Hunter replied.
He then ranted about his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle, his dad's advisors, the late Beau Biden's widow, Hallie Biden '' who later became Hunter's ex-girlfriend '' and how his addiction would affect his dad's campaign.
''For f***s sake hallie [sic] for the first time [in] 17 days talks to me to say im [sic] an embarrassment. To MY family,'' Hunter wrote.

''If you don't run ill [sic] never have a chance at redemption."
His concerned father then sent a slew of reassuring messages to Hunter a few hours later.
He said: ''I'll run but I need you. H [Hallie] is wrong. Only focus is recovery. Nothing else,'' he wrote.
''Your girls are so smart truly amazing. Very focused. Naomi very upset with K [Kathleen].

The emotional exchange was prompted by New York Times writer Maureen Dowd's February 23, 2019 column, which referenced ''the troubled Hunter" and Hallie's relationship.
"It was understandable that, having lost so many close to him, Biden would hold the troubled Hunter tight," O'Dowd wrote. "And he was doubtless upset about the public nature of the divorce."
Hunter apparently took issue with this description.

''Every bit of information they use against me is coming from 'all the people that love me.' Jesus Christ.''
Hunter took issue with being advised to ''make [clear] that I never was with hallie [sic] until a year after'' her husband and his brother Beau died of brain cancer back in 2015.
''Well dad, I guess you were right," he continued. "That it would all just go away like that genius Kate [Bedingfield '' Biden's communications director] and the rest said it would."
''Well having made clear to the world that the only reason for not [running is your] family problems im [sic] glad to be the f***ing bullseye you painted on my back."

"Can I come to see you[?]," the former Vice President wrote. "Need to talk about 2020 announcement and what you think.
"I love you, Dad," Biden concluded.
Hunter has previously opened up a bout his struggle with addiction '' which spiraled after Beau's death '' in a deeply personal interview with The New Yorker.

Hunter's personal photos and emails were first leaked on Wednesday after John Paul MacIsaac, 44, handed over the laptop to the FBI and Giuliani, who passed them on to the Post.
MacIsaac said the device dropped into his Wilmington MAC Shop in Delaware and he came across the files during its repair.
Biden's son reportedly left the water-damaged Apple laptop at MacIsaac's shop in April 2019, but MacIsaac claimed Hunter never returned, or paid the $85 bill.

but at least the GOP senators and representatives are talking about it. i was expecting them to bend over and ask for it in the ass like during most of 2017 when the house republicans under paul ryan and nunes completely abandoned the POTUS on 'muh russia' and actually believed hillary clinton/obama/comey and company. like rush limbaugh said the GOP members of congress actually thought (and hoped) that the POTUS would resign by the end of 2017 over 'muh russia'. it was only in early 2018 when the GOP congressmembers finally defended the POTUS but by that time the stormy daniels/karen mcdougal crap took over the news cycle for like 5 months and even then the GOP congress went back to being silent on stormy and other allegations and were hoping the POTUS would resign over stormy daniels like the deep state cucks they all are.
'' droden 4 points 28 minutes ago + 4 / - 0 well congress makes laws it doesnt enforce them...
Exactly. This ball is in Trump's court. The letter provides cover for Trump to enforce his power as president to tear the agency a new asshole.
While I think he would do good, I kinda like having him operating behind the curtains, shanking motherfuckers and making off with the juicy briefcases.
President Trump has been trying to get information out there like any transparent government should. Unfortunately, the Swamp Rats and Deep State shadow government run by Obama and China (in my opinion) have obstructed every step of the way.
Arrest him. Firings are for the incompetent. Arrests are for the criminally negligent and the complicit.
Like someone else said, there is justice and there is ''just us'' the alphabet agencies are around to protect their own. Not serve justice.
'' Yucky 9 points 30 minutes ago + 9 / - 0 After the election, Trump needs to fire him, and all of the people immediately below him, and replace him with someone who will actually be transparent with congress. Appoint a special team that is tied in tightly with the Whitehouse. Two or three times a week, they should meet and brief Trump on which declassification or information requests are pending from Congress. Trump will give official direction on what to release/declassify. Not tweets, not sternly worded letters, but official direction written by Whitehouse lawyers. All in writing, so nobody has any excuse to delay or deny the information. Anyone caught doing so gets arrested for insubordination.
This is how you do it. Keep a very tight leash on these people and absolutely crush them if they step even a tiny bit out of line.
I honestly think the institutional name may be unsalvageable at this point. No point in keeping three-letter organizations without legislative charters that are increasingly an embarrassment to the nation.
Yeah, they are going to need a rebranding at this point, the untouchables maybe? In reality they probably need to fire all the excutives, then beef up an internal affairs department that doesn't report to anyone internal to the organization.

They are caught acting blatantly partisan in order to stop Biden from losing so he can get in office and crush the investigation into the previous times the fbi acted blatantly partisan. If Biden loses it's all over for them
if it turns out they did nothing with this info, which is very likely, that basically amounts to aiding and abetting treason, sedition, possibly pedophilia, not to mention yet again trying to influence an election. In a much more clear cut way than russiagate.
To me, the fact that the FBI preemptively pushed the "Giuliani is being fed Russian misinformation" back in January but refuse to disclose any of the material involved and have ignored requests for information on the laptop indicate that they may have blatantly tried to cover it up.
They know what Hunter did but they won't tell any of us. I've been refreshing all morning and nothing. I trust GEOTUS has something up his sleeve, though.
Congress was investigating Burisma corruption and asked the FBI "do you have any information relating to this?" According to this letter the FBI said no, knowing in reality they had possession of the laptop (for around 7 months at that point) and a treasure trove of documentation about Burisma corruption which was subject to Congressional oversight.
I'll wait with bated breath like the last four years.

Betting that the FBI destroyed any/all evidence they had, months ago.
They're not going to answer these questions. We all know they are going to come back with "we cannot confirm or deny any open investigations and cannot compromise said investigation if it exists" or something to that affect.

If you get rid of the FBI, are other law enforcement agencies able to take over the important cases?
If that is the case just dissolve it, it always was a corrupt organisation since Hoover.
The FBI is an insurrectionist organization.
I've already resigned that our system is completely broken. It's like our institutional systems are a nice house that a bunch of meth addicts have turned into a trap house. You may drive by on the street and think it looks like a normal house but when you get up close you realize how screwed up things are, then you go inside and the entire interior has been destroyed.
You can spend years and thousands of dollars trying to repair the inside of the house, but the structural damage was too much, the rot too extensive. The only cost-effective move is to bulldoze the house.
The left is going to scream 'muh fascism' but the reality is that the only way out of this is to effectively lead a revolution from the top down. The first revolution in history to have started to overthrow the system the revolutionaries theoretically control.
Build systems around the rotted ones, and then wipe those old systems out. Nobody walks free. Every agent is given 12 hours to state their case why they aren't traitors. Anyone who makes a valid case is imprisoned for no less than 40 years. Anyone who fails is cast into the flames.
All of these institutions are just hoping to wait out Trump and for everything to go back to normal, for people to leave the trap house and forget how rotted the inside is. We need to cram 50 years of revolution and rebuilding into 4.
aaaaand straight into Wray's office document shredder it goes.

NBC Actors, Producers Protest Decision to Host Trump Town Hall at Same Time as Biden Event - WSJ
Fri, 16 Oct 2020 08:26
NBC News is under fire for its decision to give President Trump airtime for a town hall meeting Thursday night to run opposite a previously scheduled Joe Biden town hall on rival ABC News.
The network is in the unusual position of having to defend itself from people both external and internal for providing Mr. Trump airtime to make his case for a second term after he refused to participate in a debate with Mr. Biden that was originally scheduled for Thursday. The format of the debate was changed to virtual after Mr. Trump tested positive for the coronavirus and had to be hospitalized.
Some current and former NBC employees including former ''Today'' anchor Katie Couric have criticized the network for forcing viewers to choose which candidate to watch rather than carrying Mr. Trump's event later in the evening or on a different night.
On-air talent, executives and producers at the NBC-owned MSNBC news channel have also expressed consternation at the decision of the network to put Mr. Trump on head-to-head against Mr. Biden, several people inside the network said. MSNBC is known for its left-leaning prime-time commentators including Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell. An NBC News spokesman declined to comment on any tensions with MSNBC.
More than 100 prominent actors, writers and producers including many who are involved with NBC television shows are also protesting the decision
In a letter to NBCUniversal Chief Executive Jeff Shell, NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde and Brian Roberts, chief executive of NBCUniversal parent Comcast Corp. , the group said the decision to give Mr. Trump such a platform after his refusal to debate Mr. Biden is ''enabling the president's bad behavior while undercutting the Presidential Debate Commission and doing a disservice to the American public.''
The letter doesn't criticize NBC for putting the president on its airwaves, but rather that the network is allowing Mr. Trump to ''counterprogram'' his rival.
''We are simply asking that NBC air the president's town hall either before or after Vice President Biden's so that American voters can have the opportunity to watch both,'' the letter said.
Among the signers of the letter are prominent current and former NBCUniversal stars and producers including ''This Is Us'' creator Dan Fogelman and cast members Sterling K. Brown, Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia, as well as ''Law & Order: Special Victims Unit'' Executive Producer Neal Baer. ''Family Guy'' creator Seth MacFarlane, who recently agreed to a large production deal with NBCUniversal, signed, as did Alec Baldwin, who portrays the president on NBC's ''Saturday Night Live.''
Mr. Conde issued a statement, saying: ''We share in the frustration that our event will initially air alongside the first half of ABC's broadcast with Vice President Biden. Our decision is motivated only by fairness, not business considerations.''
At an event earlier Thursday, Mr. Trump referred to Comcast as ''Con-cast'' and called NBC ''the worst.'' In a tweet, he criticized C-Span anchor Steve Scully, who was set to moderate the second presidential debate that would have taken place Oct. 15 had it not been canceled. Mr. Scully was suspended indefinitely by C-Span for falsely claiming that his Twitter account had been hacked.
Mr. Conde said that NBC scheduled Mr. Trump at 8 p.m. because it had given the same slot to Mr. Biden in a previous town hall and it wanted to keep all things equal between the two candidates. Also, starting at 9 p.m. would still have conflicted with the ABC broadcast, which lasts for 90 minutes, while NBC's is an hourlong event, he added.
''We hope voters will watch both discussions'--ours will be available at any time, free and on-demand on YouTube, Peacock and all our digital news platforms,'' Mr. Conde said.
NBC News tried to persuade ABC News to move its event to later in the evening, but the request was rebuffed, two people familiar with the matter said.
NBC will also carry the event on its CNBC financial-news channel and its Spanish-language network, Telemundo, as it did with its Biden town hall.
After Mr. Trump rejected holding the Oct. 15 debate virtually, ABC News, a unit of Walt Disney Co. , then landed Mr. Biden for a town-hall style meeting to be held in Philadelphia at 8 p.m. NBC News subsequently negotiated its Trump event for the same time.
Both events are employing safety measures to avoid any spread of the coronavirus. Mr. Trump and his interviewer, Savannah Guthrie, of NBC's ''Today'' show will be 12 feet apart. The audience will be small and has been tested and will be masked. A similar approach is being taken by ABC News for its event.

Official "Vote Joe" App Security Flaw Leaks Private Data Of All 250,000 Users - FMShooter
Sun, 18 Oct 2020 11:55
[Guest Post] Catboy is a conservative Gen-Z college student in his early twenties with years of experience in software engineering, application/network security, and product design.
In the vast majority of Joe Biden's never-ending stream of screw-ups on the campaign trail, many of his decisions are not yet impacting voters at home. Unless, of course, his mobile application leaks data about hundreds of thousands of Americans via his campaign's very own ''Vote Joe'' app.
What is the Vote Joe App?Vote Joe, the Biden-Harris' attempt to appeal to the youth, is a sleek mobile application (admittedly sleeker than the competition's) that aims to get people to annoy their friends to vote, politically charge and already-over-politicized nation, and turn ordinary folks into telemarketers, with a leaderboard, points, and a leveling system to boot.
My main development laptop broke, and as COVID restrictions have delayed Apple for weeks, I decided to kill some time by digging into what the application does and the code that powers it.
All debugging and requests made are for my own personal information or information that is already public, and falls squarely inside the bounds of what is allowed by the CFAA (Computer Fraud and Abuse Act). Requesting the data of other users may have you facing charges. Don't do it.
So what's the problem? To begin, there is usually a lengthy process to even attain the code that powers a mobile application. Companies don't want you seeing it, and neither does Apple. Thanks to jailbreaking, the process of breaking out of the numerous security measures Apple has in place for their mobile devices, most of the buck of making sure applications are secure fall to the developers, or in his case, Joe Biden and his staff.
As we all know, they're fairly incompetent.
To be fair, the application wasn't created by Joe Biden and his team directly, but a company based out of Somerville MA called OutVote (https://outvote.io). Outvote is self-described as an application for progressives to canvass, act, and connect to get the politicians they like elected. Joe Biden most likely partnered with this organization to create a new mobile application, but it turns out they lazily tacked-on to their existing application to create ''Vote Joe.'' The codebase is almost identical except that there are a few Biden-specific edits shoved into the Biden version.
And what happens when developers get lazy and don't think things through?
You get data leaks. My curiosity for the app stemmed from the fact you could upload your contact book and get tons of information about each contact entry. For example, each person in my contacts now had a hometown, an age-range, a party affiliation, and a voting history. None of my contacts know I requested this data, never mind giving permission for it. Now, this isn't specific to the Biden application, voter rolls exist and are (somewhat) public information in some states, but not in all of them.
https://www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/access-to-and-use-of-voter-registration-lists.aspx
Many states limit this data to political parties (of which Biden is, of course, a part of) for legitimate campaign uses. What happens when all of this data, regardless of state, is accessible to anyone? Without requesting it from the state?
Some might call that doxxing '' Imagine this data getting into the hands of Twitter and TikTok.
So what's the process of getting this information? Vote Joe asks for a first name, last name, age range, and state. However, if you don't use the Vote Joe app and instead submit an HTTP request outside of the app, you just need a first and last name, and the state. From that you can get every single person with that name in that state, their hometown, age range, party affiliation, and voter history.
But wait '' there's more!If you shrugged that one off as ''it's mostly public information anyways,'' trust me that was the appetizer, the mozzarella sticks to the chicken parm that's headed your way.
So I decided to look into my profile. On the page it happened to say ''Team Size: 1, Points: 0, Actions: 0'' '' it's weird how I never created a ''team'' but I shrugged It off. The team name was my first and last name, ''Catboy Presidente''
The leaderboards has teams too, ranked by points for a truly game-ified democracy. It showed the first 34 teams, with names like ''Amy Klobuchar's Team,'' ''Muslims for Biden,'' ''Soul Squad,'' and ''Women for Biden.''
No ''Network Security Engineers for Biden'' '' maybe there should be.
In the code for the application, there are parts that make out calls to the internet to power things like leaderboards, teams, profiles, etc. A common one to get the current user's profile was there:
makeRequest("/user", {method:'GET'})Repeating that request in a web browser gave me my user ID, a number used to identify a user, sometimes in lieu of a username or email address.
{ "id": "249586"}There was also a request to get the leaderboards:
makeRequest("/campaigns/831/leaderboards", {method:'GET'})(831 is the ID for Joe Biden in OutVote, remember when I said they just tacked Vote Joe onto their existing application?)
[ { "id": 129503, "name": "Women for Biden", "join_code": "649053", "team_leader": { "first_name": "Carissa", "last_name": "Smith" } }, { "id": 129515, "name": "Young Americans for Biden", ... } ...]Huh. That team ID kinda looks like my user ID, doesn't it?
In the code there was a way to get details about the teams in the above request.
makeRequest("/teams/" + id, {method:'GET'})What happens if I replace the ID with my user ID, ''249586''?
{ "id": 249586, "name": "Catboy's Team", "join_code": "99999XX", ... "owner": { "first_name": "Catboy", "last_name": "Presidente" }},HOLY SHIT. From that experiment we learned that users and teams are one in the same. Unfortunately for everyone registered to the app, that ID can be any number between 1 and 250,000 (the number of users registered in the app just to drop that little statistic on you), and it will return that user's first and last name '' and all other associated data with the user '' just like it returned ''Catboy Presidente''.
So there you have it, two deadly flaws in a lazy application made by a lazy company for sleepy Joe Biden. 250,000 names with associated activity levels leaked alongside countless others in voter rolls.
Godspeed all you cool cats and kittens.

By the Solari Team
The Portland riots began in May and continue to this day. We decided to map what data we had as of October 7, 2020. A correlation between riot damage and the tax-attractive Opportunity Zones that we noted in the riot damage patterns in Kenosha and Minneapolis continues in Portland (see ''Subcriber Resources'' section at the bottom of the page).
If you have more detailed Portland riot damage information, we ask that subscribers post at subscriberinput[at]solari.com. If you are not a subscriber, please send your riot damage info to customerservice@solari.com. As always, we invite your input.
Sources:In addition to Live UA Maps, we used three additional sources which are listed in ''Subscriber Resources'' below:
The main source for this report was Live UA Map Timeline Aug 24 '' Oct 07 2020. Stories listed were from Twitter and elsewhere, most of which referred to multiple and sometimes duplicate instances of the same event. There were only a handful of individual property damage reports. Consequently, there can be no assurance that the data we used are accurate or complete.KGW8 (NBC affiliate) Video and ArticleKGW8 YouTube ChannelPortland PD Timeline GraphicPortland riots started in May and are continuing. Law Enforcement Infrastructure and Personnel were the primary targets. Police, Sheriff, ICE, Federal Court, and Local Government assets were under prolonged attacks from August 24th '' Oct 7th. A tremendous amount of effort was spent on destroying the downtown area bounded on the West: by the 405, North: by West Burnside, East: Willamette River and South: SW Clay. Where a high concentration of Justice and Police facilities were. This also appears to be the 1st appearance of the ''Proud Boys'' in one of our reports. Who they are and who is financing them is unclear at the moment. For whatever reason, only 500 OR Army National Guard (ORARNG) Troops were activated (where 2000 were activated in Kenosha, WI). Federal Law Enforcement Agencies used in place of the ORARNG were: ICE, Border Patrol, U.S. Marshalls and Homeland Security forces.??Damage Statistics: Portland protests have cost local businesses $23M to date.
What was the same?Though the majority of the Riot Damage was in Opportunity Zones, there was a significant amount that was not. Most of that damage was to Police / Sheriff's and Law Enforcement Association (Pension) infrastructure. The Police on occasion were forced to leave the area due to superior forces.Police deployed Rubber Bullets, Tear Gas, Flash Bang Grenades, Pepper Spray, Pepper Balls, and hand to hand (baton, shield, etc).Rioters deployed Molotov Cocktails, assorted projectiles, returned tear PD gas cannisters and an assortment of clubs, projectiles, etc.Several shootings were reported across the Metro area during this period.Peaceful Protestors and Rioters were intermixed.Riots happened repeatedly in the same areas across the Metro area over a long time span.Small Business property damage was rampant.Residential areas were targeted by rioters. There appeared to be Left- and Right-wing out-of-town combatants.Left and Right forces inflicted casualties on each other.Riot Damage was very linear / symmetrical. The below maps were made w/ an Apple app called ''Ahoy Map Maker.''Solari Generated .amap Source File download here.(To view details of each icon / incident.)

San Francisco may rename 44 schools named after Washington, Lincoln, Feinstein and more
Fri, 16 Oct 2020 19:46
George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and even Sen. Dianne Feinstein have been deemed too problematic to be featured in the names of schools in the San Francisco Unified School District by a panel of 12 community members appointed by the superintendent.
Three weeks ago, the panel found that 44 of the 125 schools in the district might have to change their names after their review. KGO reported that panel members sought to rename schools currently featuring the names of, "anyone directly involved in the colonization of people, slave owners or participants in enslavement, perpetrators of genocide or slavery, those who exploit workers/people, those who directly oppressed or abused women, children, queer or transgender people, those connected to any human rights or environmental abuse [and] those who are known racists and/or white supremacists and/or espoused racist beliefs."
The Chronicle reported Wednesday that parents and principals were formally asked this week to brainstorm potential new names by Dec. 18, a move that was not well-received given the fact that schools are still in distanced learning due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The school board will then vote on any potential name changes in January or February of 2021.
In a statement sent to SFGATE, the SFUSD said, "Any final decision to change school names rests with the elected members of the Board of Education. As part of this process, the committee has requested input from schools by the end of this semester. Schools are not required or mandated to participate in this process. This is a process being led by an advisory committee. The district appreciates that the advisory committee's timing may be difficult for schools, and has conveyed concerns to the advisory committee regarding the challenges of making recommendations at this time given that we are in distance learning due to the pandemic."
Schools named after former presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are on the list due to the two presidents' slave-owning status, and a school named after Abraham Lincoln is on the list because of his treatment of Native Americans.
Dianne Feinstein Elementary School made the list because she reportedly replaced a vandalized Confederate flag flying outside City Hall when she was mayor in 1984. Progressives have recently been irate at Feinstein after her embrace of South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham at the end of the Amy Coney Barrett Supreme Court nomination hearings.
Also on the list is El Dorado Elementary School, because panel members took issue with the concept of El Dorado.
''The concept of El Dorado, especially in California, had a lot to do with the search of gold, and for the indigenous people that meant the death of them,'' panel member Mary Travis Allen said during a September meeting. ''I don't think the concept of greed and lust for gold is a concept we want our children to be given.''
The full list of schools that are being considered for name changes can be found here.
San Francisco Mayor London Breed called the potential name changes "offensive" given the fact that schools are still closed when city and state health orders allow in-person education to resume.
"The School District and the Board of Education need to do what needs to be done to get our kids back in school," she said in a statement released Friday. "And now, in the midst of this once in a century challenge, to hear that the District is focusing energy and resources on renaming schools '-- schools that they haven't even opened '-- is offensive. It's offensive to parents who are juggling their children's daily at-home learning schedules with doing their own jobs and maintaining their sanity. It's offensive to me as someone who went to our public schools, who loves our public schools, and who knows how those years in the classroom are what lifted me out of poverty and into college. It's offensive to our kids who are staring at screens day after day instead of learning and growing with their classmates and friends."
Some parents were also less than thrilled about the process, especially at a time the district still has yet to articulate a full plan to reopen in-person instruction.
"Principals are devoting resources to this," parent Jonathan Alloy told The Chronicle.
"We're not actually helping disadvantaged children by changing the name of the school they can't attend," Alloy added.
Cornell voted to stop calling its English Department the "English Department" in order to fight "structural forms of racism" | Not the Bee
Sun, 18 Oct 2020 12:21
When it came time to choose a category for this story "Can't Make It Up" was the natural frontrunner.
Yeah super-woke Cornell University has voted to stop calling its English Department the "English Department" because that is extremely racist. They want to separate "the conflation of English as a language and English as a nationality."
So they're renaming the department "the department of literatures in English."
I mean what can you say about this? I'll just leave you with some amazing quotes from faculty, courtesy of the Cornell Daily Sun:
"Faculty around the country '-- not just faculty of color, but faculty in general '-- began to look at the institution to see how we can help advance a discourse that challenges structural forms of racism which get reproduced in students and in teaching over and over again.""What surprised us was the fact that so many of the white faculty of the English department signed on '-- we were amazed. By the time we were ready to officially take it to the department as a whole, we had over 75 percent of the faculty signed on.""This isn't just us doing a symbolic gesture, this is in keeping with the University's call to have us really rethink our everyday practices around racism."

The WEF Clarion Call: A Breakdown of 'The Great Reset' '' Steven Guinness
Sun, 18 Oct 2020 11:50
Last month I posted an article that looked at the World Economic Forum as the institution behind 'The Great Reset' agenda that was launched in June. One of the main themes of the article was the WEF's 'Strategic Intelligence platform', which the organisation describe as 'a dynamic system of contextual intelligence that enables users to trace relationships and interdependencies between issues, supporting more informed decision-making'.
As I made reference to, Strategic Intelligence is the mechanism which brings all the interests that the WEF focus on together. This includes specific countries and industries, as well as global issues like Covid-19 and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
When you look into Strategic Intelligence, one aspect to it that quickly becomes apparent is how each global issue and industry intertwines with one another. For instance, Covid-19 is a strand of 'The Great Reset' and vice versa. What this does is create the impression that only a collectivised approach incorporating all 'stakeholders' has the capacity to deal with crises on a global scale. The WEF is built upon the belief that nations and corporations must be interdependent and seek to remedy the world's problems through the medium of global institutions.
So it is little surprise then that the WEF have devised through their Strategic Intelligence platform 'The Great Reset'. What this entails can be catagorised into two parts. First are the seven leading objectives for achieving the reset. In no particular order these are:
Shaping the Economic RecoveryHarnessing the Fourth Industrial RevolutionStrengthening Regional DevelopmentRevitalizing Global CooperationDeveloping Sustainable Business ModelsRestoring the Health of the EnvironmentRedesigning Social Contracts, Skills and JobsNext comes a mix of global issues and industries woven into 'The Great Reset' agenda. At last count there were over fifty areas that make up the reset. These include:
Blockchain; Digital Identity; Internet Governance; Development Finance; Sustainable Development; Future of Health and Healthcare; Global Governance; Financial and Monetary Systems; Public Finance and Social Protection; Climate Change; Drones; 5G; The Ocean; Banking and Capital Markets; Aviation, Travel and Tourism; International Trade and Investment; Covid-19; Biodiversity; Cities and Urbanization; Leadership in the 4IR; Geo-economics; Global Health; International Security; Geopolitics; Future of Food; Air Pollution; 3D Printing; Batteries; Circular Economy; Future of Mobility; Human Rights; Gender Parity; Taxation; Future of Media, Entertainment and Culture; Digital Economy and New Value Creation; Fourth Industrial Revolution; Future of Economic Progress; Workforce and Employment; Agile Governance; Global Risks; Advanced Manufacturing and Production; Environment and Natural Resource Security; Plastics and the Environment; Corporate Governance; Forests; Justice and Law; Civic Participation; LGBTI Inclusion; Inclusive Design; Future of Computing; Artificial Intelligence and Robotics; Systemic Racism
As mentioned, all these subjects intermix throughout Strategic Intelligence. The distinction comes in the fact that the World Economic Forum have identified 'The Great Reset' as the one issue that can bind all these other areas of concern together to try and bring about an economic and societal 'new world order'. So much so that when announcing the initiative in June, the WEF confirmed that the reset will be the theme of its annual Davos meeting in Switzerland come January 2021. In previous years the WEF have only published details of an upcoming theme a few weeks before the meeting takes place. This time, however, they have given over six months notice, which suggests the level of significance that the WEF have placed on 'The Great Reset'.
Having ascertained the seven main objectives and the plethora of industries and issues tied to them, let's now get a sense of the motivations behind the reset from those who are calling for it.
The Founder and Executive Chairman of the institution, Klaus Schwab, and the IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, are two of the most prominent voices.
Beginning with Schwab, in articles posted on the WEF website (Now is the time for a 'great reset' and COVID-19's legacy: This is how to get the Great Reset right) and during several interviews that can be found on the WEF's Youtube channel, Schwab summarises why he considers an economic, societal, geopolitical, environmental and technological reset to be essential.
From Schwab's perspective, there are numerous reasons why a Great Reset should be pursued, but Covid-19 is the most urgent of them all. Not only has the virus demonstrated that existing systems are no longer fit for purpose, it has also 'accelerated our transition into the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution'. For those unfamiliar with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, this was a concept that the World Economic Forum led with for their 2016 Davos meeting. Back in 2018 I published a brief overview of 4IR which can be found here.
With systems not suited to the 21st century, Schwab spoke of the urgency to 'restore a functioning system of smart global cooperation structured to address the challenges of the next 50 years.' To achieve this, all stakeholders of global society will have to be integrated into a 'community of common interest, purpose and action'. No one, it seems, is permitted to be left behind. We go as one, as a collective, whether an individual likes it or not. Every country will need to take part. Every industry must be transformed. This, according to Schwab, will signify a Great Reset of capitalism and a new era of prosperity.
But what if all stakeholders don't band together behind the initiative? In Schwab's view, to be dis-united 'will lead to more polarisation, nationalism, racism, increased social unrest and conflicts'. In short, a greater level of chaos and degradation of systems, leaving the world more fragile and less sustainable.
Schwab has insisted that to avoid this scenario, minor changes will not suffice. Instead, 'entirely new foundations for our economic and social systems' must be built. Covid-19, therefore, is an 'historical moment to shape the system for a post Corona era.' It is an opportunity that Schwab says must not be missed.
Schwab went further a few weeks after the Great Reset was launched. As many are aware, using crisis as an opportunity to bring about major economic and societal change is a notorious strategy of global planners. And every so often some of those planners suggest as much. According to Schwab, 'acute crises favour introspection and foster the potential for transformation'. The Prince of Wales, who fully endorses the Great Reset, said something similar in that 'unprecedented shockwaves of crisis may make people more receptive to bigger visions of change'.
This begs the question '' does the same level of potential for change exist without the onset of crises? To a small extent, perhaps, but more likely is that until a population is faced with a threat or danger that they believe risks being detrimental to them personally, the motivation to act and call for reform is not as urgent. Minds need to be concentrated on the seeming disaster at hand before sufficient support can be gained for the policies that global planners seek.
And if minds can be concentrated, then as Schwab points out, 'a new world could emerge, the contours of which it is incumbent on us to re-imagine and to re-draw'.
Many of the policies that global figureheads desire are within the purview of the the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which Schwab and his ilk have been promoting as essential since the back end of 2015. Now a global crisis of sufficient magnitude has presented an opening to further the goals of the global elite. Did this happen by coincidence or by design? Truthfully, no one can say for sure. Whilst the World Economic Forum were part of a pandemic simulation exercise a few months before the world entered into a live pandemic, this is not incontrovertible evidence of what some are now referring to as a 'plandemic'.
When the Great Reset agenda was unveiled, one of the other leading proponents was IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. She declared it of 'paramount importance' that a future return to economic growth must encompass a 'greener, smarter and fairer world'. There is no need to wait, said Georgieva. The world must act now.
One of the most important takeaways from Georgieva's intervention was her admission that 'the digital economy is the big winner of this crisis'. We have seen this already through the exponential growth in central banks discussing the issuance of their own digital currencies and using Covid-19 as a reason to reinforce calls for a new global economic 'architecture'.
In a speech to Italy's National Consultation in June (Italy, Europe and the Global Recovery in 2021), Georgieva said that Covid-19 'may have accelerated the digital transformation by two or three years'. The unproven fear of cash being a transmitter of the virus, along with people relying on contactless payments and online transactions, have no doubt contributed to her outlook.
Georgieva's focus is on 'the economy of tomorrow', which is reason enough for her that the 'economy of yesterday' should be consigned to history. Entirely new foundations are required, not a rework of the failed systems of old. If it sounds like Georgieva and Schwab are reading from the same script, I would suggest that they are.
Georgieva believes that 2021 is a make or break year for the Great Reset. Either the world chooses more cooperation or more fragmentation. According to her, 'this is the moment to decide that history will look back on this as the Great Reset, not the Great Reversal'.
As you might have guessed, 'the most important anchor of recovery' is for a Covid-19 vaccination, which Georgieva hopes will be available at scale by 2021. The implication is that without a vaccine the world will be unable to return to any sense of normality, particularly in terms of open interaction with your fellow man. Only with a vaccine and supplementary treatments can there be a 'fully fledged recovery'.
To support the drive for a Great Reset, in July Klaus Schwab co-wrote a book with Thierry Malleret (who founded the Global Risk Network at the World Economic Forum) called 'Covid-19: The Great Reset'. In a follow up article I will be looking at some aspects to the book, and also will make an argument for why the idea of a 'Great Reversal' might not be as detrimental to global planners as the likes of Kristalina Georgieva make out.

A Major Study That Fueled National Vape Panic Has Been Retracted - VICE
Sat, 17 Oct 2020 17:51
The paper, published by the American Heart Association's scientific journal, claimed that vaping could lead to a heart attack.

After months of pressure from the scientific community, the American Heart Association's academic journal on Tuesday evening retracted a widely circulated vaping study, which claimed that using e-cigarettes increased the likelihood of having a heart attack.
Last June, the authors, Stanton Glantz and Dharma Bhatta of the University of California San Francisco, stated in the original study that vaping and smoking cigarettes posed a similar risk, while doing both at the same time was an even more dangerous option. Following its publication in the summer, the peer-reviewed research was referenced by major news organizations, including CNN, Yahoo News, and USA Today.
In a statement explaining the retraction, editors at the Journal of the American Heart Association (JAHA) expressed worry that the study may have been based on misleading data.
"The editors are concerned that the study conclusion is unreliable," they wrote.
JAHA pulled the paper after Brad Rodu, a tobacco control expert at the University of Louisville, noted that many of the vapers Glantz and Bhatta analyzed for the study were also current or former smokers. Rodu argued that there was a possibility that the use of combustible cigarettes is what made them more likely to suffer heart attacks.
"A retraction is not a trivial matter," Rodu told VICE on Wednesday. "It's a significant action. Saying it was a mistake is too weak."
Last month, several scholars at public-health schools including New York University, Yale, and King's College London sent a letter to JAHA bringing attention to Rodu's criticisms and asking for an appropriate investigation.
David Sweanor, an adjunct professor of law at the University of Ottawa who has studied the global tobacco industry for decades, was among those who signed the letter.
"There are serious problems with the peer-review process and the reluctance of journals to retract invalid work," Sweanor said. "This has helped feed the reduction in trust in academia, and science in general."
In their statement explaining the retraction, the journal's editors said someone else had raised the same issue during the peer-review process. While the research had been published anyway, the journal gave Glantz and Bhatta a deadline to revise the findings, which they didn't meet. Explaining why, Glantz said that his access to the dataset he used for the research had been revoked, because he did not have approval to use it to begin with.
On Twitter and his blog, Glantz stood by the paper, saying that JAHA had simply relented to "pressure from e-cig interests."
In recent months, Glantz and Rodu have traded criticisms of one another. Glantz has frequently noted the fact Rodu receives some financial support from the tobacco industry. Rodu and other harm-reduction proponents have often railed against Glantz for his scientific methods and his views on tobacco control. Rodu originally voiced this criticism of Glantz in early July 2019, right after the study's publication.
JAHA's decision might turn out to be a small win for academics and advocates who are pushing vaping has a safer alternative to smoking cigarettes, but the paper's conclusions have already fed what critics have argued is a moral panic over e-cigarettes. Its publication came amid rising concern over teenage e-cigarette and fueled a continuing misconception over the lifesaving potential of switching from cigarettes to vaping.
"To me, this story simply confirms what I have been arguing for a long time: that there is a profound anti-e-cigarette bias among tobacco-control researchers, and this is precisely what caused this fiasco," said Michael Siegel, a professor of community health sciences at Boston University.

Article: Fed Announces It Will Quit Printing Paper Money '' Round Table Report
Sat, 17 Oct 2020 17:50
The Federal Reserve sent out a notice that they're stopping the printing of any paper currency 'this holiday season'. This is all due to the virus of course. Because any new money they print could be contaminated, just keep using old, clean, used currency.
''I've talked about the money issue, the push for a cashless society. Remember, they stopped minting coins this summer. You've seen people begging for coins, businesses saying they'll round up to the nearest dollar, or others saying they're not going to accept cash at all anymore, which is what they want.''
''Now, a listener sent me a notice that was sent to a credit union saying, 'Federal Reserve has suspended orders for new bills in 2020. During the holidays, members often request newly printed bills to give as gifts, unfortunately, this holiday season newly printed bills will not be available due to COVID-19.' The Federal Reserve is using this as an excuse to do what they've wanted to do for years.''
The excuse offered is that by ceasing printing new currency, it helps to ''meet demand''. Does that makes any sense? No wonder ever accused the Federal Reserve of understanding supply and demand. Maybe they understand it but don't respect it.
''The notice goes on to say, 'This is a proactive measure to allow the reserve banks to continue to meet the daily demand for currency and coins.' So if you stop printing paper currency that wears out, that's the way to meet the daily demand for currency. The Orwellian doublethink is strong with this one.''
''The rebellion is rising as people are finally catching on to the scam. But even though the rebellion is winning on some fronts we still have the Operation Warp Speed death star being built. We still have other issues that are rolling out, the vaccines, the global ID, the war on the middle class, UBI, and the cashless society,'' said Knight.
They say they'll, 'do their best to accommodate requests for like new or gently used bills, but you might want to get a cashiers check, or take the digital route.' Yeah, that's what you really want to do, because we're not going to print money anymore,'' concluded Knight.
Central banks must have digital currency alternative if Facebook's Libra blocked: BoC | CTV News
Sun, 18 Oct 2020 12:46
OTTAWA -- A senior official at the Bank of Canada says central banks should have their own digital currency ready as an alternative if they decide to say no to one being developed by Facebook.
The social media giant has spent the last 16 months or so developing a digital currency it calls Libra.
Facebook's foray into the digital currency market could help marginalized populations become part of the global economy and improve cross-border payments, Bank of Canada deputy governor Timothy Lane said Thursday.
But if regulators decide to block Libra's use in a given country over regulatory or oversight concerns, Lane said a central bank should have its own digital currency ready for people to use.
He said the issue policy-makers are dealing with is how to regulate something that would be available to every one of Facebook's users, and overseen by an association of companies headquartered in Switzerland.
"That's the nub of the question: whether the answer is Libra or whether it's something that central banks do," he said during an online panel.
"If we're saying, well, it should be (central bank digital currency) not Libra, then we have to have something ready so that if a decision were taken that central bank digital currency is the way to go, we would actually be ready to launch it."
The Bank of Canada has been developing its own digital currency at what Lane described as "a good pace," one of a number of central banks doing the same kind of development should the need arise to issue one.
The Bank of Canada doesn't have the legislative authority from Parliament to offer a digital currency, only to design, issue and distribute the bills stuffed inside wallets and handed over a counter.
Lane said yesterday during a separate online panel that there was still no compelling case for central banks to immediately issue their own digital currencies, but noted again Thursday that circumstances are quickly shifting with Libra helping lead the charge.
"Libra in some sense, suggests that central banks need to get that thinking underway a little bit more rapidly than they have been doing," Lane said on the panel during the Central Bank Payments Conference.
What has made central banks take particular note of Libra is that once it is released, hundreds of millions of people could quickly start using it. It would also be considered a "stablecoin," backed by a basket of currencies and financial assets designed to make its value less volatile than other cryptocurrencies.
And as Lane pointed out, Libra also touches on multiple areas traditionally regulated in different ways, including the tokens generally regulated as a money market fund, designated dealers that are usually financial institutions subject to their own rules, and the digital wallets Facebook plans to use are subject to retail payments oversight.
The Financial Stability Board, an international group that counts the Bank of Canada and the federal Finance Department as members, recommended in a report this week that any Libra-like stablecoin be subject to all regulatory requirements before it could be used in a jurisdiction.
Julien Le Goc, policy director for the Libra Association, said the currency wants to follow a "regulated pathway."
"The progression here is not to disrupt the system or compete with it, but really to augment consumers payment optionality and to complete the system," he said on the panel.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Oct. 15, 2020.

Plane Contrails Have a Surprising Effect on Global Warming | WIRED
Sun, 18 Oct 2020 12:01
Of the varied conspiracy theories regarding contrails'--you know, chemtrails'--one stands out for being especially wrong: the belief that the plane-made clouds are chemicals the government is secretly spraying to battle climate change, to the peril of those on the ground. First, contrails are nothing but the incidental result of mixing hot, water-vapor-filled jet engine exhaust with cold air. Second, the government has nothing to do with them. Most important, they're not battling climate change. They're accelerating it.
Recent studies have found that contrails (a portmanteau of condensation and trails) may contribute as much as or more than all flights to the warming of the planet.
Stay in the know with our Transportation newsletter. Sign up here!
You may think of contrails as tiny lines against a vast sky, but in certain conditions, they can be a lot more. They can stretch tens of miles. Wind can spread them out. They can linger for hours. So as plane after plane runs the same route through the air, new and old contrails mingle and accumulate, forming airborne mosh pits of ice cloud. Scientists call these ''contrail cirrus'''--high-altitude clouds that can spread over hundreds of square miles. And they're likely to become more of a problem: One study found that as air traffic increases, the heat-trapping effect of contrail cirrus in 2050 could be three times greater than it was in 2006. Clouds trap heat coming off the earth that would otherwise head for space, making them the biggest variable in the planet's temperature and climate, according to NASA.
New research out of the UK has found two silver linings in the cloudy conundrum. The first is that just 2.2 percent of flights create 80 percent of contrail-related warming. According to a January paper in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, the troublemakers are mostly flights that take off in the late afternoon and early evening, whose contrails live mostly during the night'--when they still trap some heat but can't deflect any sunshine (which can balance out their impact). ''The effects at night are purely warming,'' says Marc Stettler, the lead author on the paper, Mitigating the Climate Forcing of Aircraft Contrails by Small-Scale Diversions and Technology Adoption.
The better news, Stettler and his coauthors report, is that those planes can avoid making most contrails with minor altitude changes. Contrails form only when the air is heavily saturated with water molecules that can attach to soot particles from engine exhaust and condense, grow into ice crystals, and join into clouds. Often, though, that saturation is confined to a narrow band of altitude, and airplanes can find drier areas by moving up or down.
The WIRED Guide to Climate ChangeThe world is getting warmer, the weather is getting worse. Here's everything you need to know about what humans can do to stop wrecking the planet.
Per the researchers' math, diverting fewer than 2 percent of flights either up or down by 2,000 feet, or less, could reduce the total climate impact of contrails by 59 percent. And unlike the CO2 already living the high life, contrails do damage only during their brief lifetime. ''It's a really, really quick way that the aviation industry could address its impact on the climate,'' says Stettler, an engineering professor at Imperial College London's Centre for Transport Studies.
Stettler and his fellow authors based their findings on flights over Japan in 2012, which offered the best data they could access on the exact positions of actual flights. They matched that to weather data and used a computer model that predicts when aircraft create contrails to see which flights would have done the most damage.
The next step is to verify that these results hold up in other parts of the world, and learn whether it's reasonable for airlines to change their flight paths. One snag might be figuring out when a plane is leaving a cloud in its wake. ''There's no mirror,'' says Les Westbrooks, a professor of aeronautical science and airline operations at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Stettler suggests some sort of sensor on the plane, or having pilots alert each other when they see the white stuff.
Westbrooks also doubts airlines will be willing to adjust flight paths designed to minimize fuel consumption'--which accounts for about one-third of an airline's expenses. They're unlikely to want to jog up and down through the atmosphere, looking for a sweet spot. Katherine Estep, communications director for the industry trade group Airlines for America, says airlines are working with NASA and the FAA ''to address potential contrail effects through more efficient aircraft, air traffic management strategies, and the substitution of traditional jet fuel with sustainable aviation fuel.'' Stettler's work estimates that the suggested altitude adjustments would increase fuel consumption'--and carbon emissions'--on those flights by just 0.27 percent.
Stettler calls the study a proof of concept, a reason to look more deeply into how to mitigate the effects of contrails. Airlines are more conscious than ever about their image with regard to climate change'--see the recent proclamations about going carbon-neutral from JetBlue and Delta'--and this could make for an easy way to impress the public and help the planet. They could even borrow a catchphrase from the folks on the ground: leave no trace.

Adult Star Jenna Jameson: Hollywood Is Run By Pedophiles Who 'Sacrifice and Torture Children' - News Punch
Fri, 16 Oct 2020 03:23
The world is run by ''elite'' pedophiles who hunt and torture children for sport, according to former adult star Jenna Jameson, who says Hollywood has remained silent on child sex trafficking because ''not only do they partake, they are covering for the big league hitters.''
According to Jameson, Hollywood is controlled by pedophiles, many of whom make Jeffrey Epstein ''look like an amateur'' and engage in ritual child sacrifice and torture.
''If you think Epstein is somehow unique, you're sadly mistaken'... there are MANY Epstein's, that make him look like an amateur. Child hunting games, sacrifice, torture of children as young as 2,'' said Jameson.
Jameson has become increasingly outspoken about rampant pedophilia and child abuse among the elite and in the entertainment since she rose to the top of the adult industry, being named the world's most famous adult entertainment performer and ''The Queen of Porn''.
However in 2008 she abruptly walked away after reaching the top, and has become increasingly outspoken about the entertainment industry.
The reason why Hollywood has been so incredibly silent on child sex trafficking is not only do they partake, they are covering for the big league hitters. The ones that hide in the shadows under the cover of a crown.

'-- Jenna Jameson (@jennajameson) July 21, 2020When I was barely 16 I was trafficked into stripping. I was told by my handlers to hide in my locker if the authorities came looking for me. This all became so normal to me that I didn't realize how very wrong it was. After being raped violently over my childhood, it seemed easy.
'-- Jenna Jameson (@jennajameson) July 23, 2020Wikipedia Co-Founder Admits 'Child Sex Trafficking By Elites' Is a 'Horrible Reality'
Pedophilia is entrenched in ''high society'' around the world and there is ''proof'' that elite pedophiles are sex trafficking children for their deranged pleasure, says Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger, who has urged the world to wake up to the ''horrible reality.''
The phenomenon of elite pedophilia is systematic and entrenched, according to Larry Sanger, who warned ''many of the Beautiful People know about child sex trafficking by elites'' before adding ''some participate in it, and'... the media and courts cover it up.''
Sanger, who co-founded Wikipedia, coining the name and writing much of its original governing policy, has now turned his formidable attention to the scourge of elite pedophilia, saying ''This is not a joke and it's real.''
Sanger authored a deep dive Twitter thread on the topic, linking various household-name perpetrators with some lesser-known, though no less disturbing, exposes and cover-ups from recent history, in an attempt to awaken the masses to what he describes as the ''reality and horror'' of child sex trafficking by elites.

Christian O'Connell slams 'lazy', 'immature' Aussie radio
Sat, 17 Oct 2020 12:10
Host of GOLD104.3's Breakfast program in Melbourne, Christian O'Connell, has warned Australian radio networks, CEOs and content directors that podcasting is coming for them if they don't get their acts together quickly and remind audiences what is so special about radio.
The UK radio star '' who currently sits atop the FM Breakfast market in Victoria's capital '' told Radio Today that while he loves radio, it's letting itself down with ''lazy'' content and an ''immature'' attitude to the war with podcasting.
''I think [podcasting's] thrown some shade at some radio. Radio, if I'm really honest '' and I can say this, I've worked on both sides of the world in radio '' there is a lot of very lazy, dumbed-down radio that insult their audience. And I think that some people have been going elsewhere to be fed what they want from their audio, from sound '' and if that's podcasting, then obviously it is. And I think that radio, rather than trying to talk [podcasting] down or go 'Well they only account for x percentage of the marketplace', should take a good, long look at itself and think 'Well, are we going to put up a fight here?' Why does it need to be a fight?,'' he said.
''You know, not all podcasts are amazing, but there's some really well-produced podcasts. And I think what's happened is radio's been very snobbish, and I think a bit blinkered about it over the last 10 years, where it's just refused to accept [podcasting] is getting bigger and bigger and bigger,'' he added.
O'Connell was speaking to Radio Today about the launch of his podcast, also produced and distributed by GOLD104.3's parent company Australian Radio Network (ARN). Stuff of Legends, his new podcast featuring real and raw conversations with high-profile people about the objects which matter most to them, makes sense as a podcast, he said. This doesn't mean, however, that it needs to cannibalise his radio audience.
''Why can't we have someone like me? I'm doing this idea with ARN because it makes sense for me to say on the radio show 'Hey, listen, if you're looking out for new podcasts, I'm doing this'...' I can promote it on my radio show, a podcast, I can make it join the dots up a bit, and that's how it should be. It's like, how can [radio] learn from what podcasting has done, and incorporate it into their digital strategy? Any radio group now that doesn't have a proper, fully-formed, embracing digital strategy is crazy. It's only tracking one way. And I think for me personally, it's exciting,'' he said.
This combative attitude to podcasting, and the need to go to war with it, is a hangover from radio days gone by, where stations tried to ''smash'' each other, instead of collectively promoting the medium, and working towards the greater good, he said.
The fact the industry still behaves like this, highlights its immaturity, he warned.
''Radio can be very immature, it's like a teenager at times. When I first started in radio, I couldn't believe there were all these conversations like 'We're going to smash them', and I'd think 'Who are they talking about?' And I'd realise they're talking about the other radio stations, and I'm like 'But there's loads of people in this city' You know, in London there's 10 million people. There's enough people to go around for everyone to have their own radio show. Why have we got to 'smash' them? And give them nothing? And all these kind of war analogies?''
O'Connell's plea to the local radio market is to grow up, and remind audiences of what it does so well, particularly throughout the pandemic when it has been so vital.
''I think what radio did show [throughout the pandemic] is it still matters to people, its immediacy, its intimacy. Podcasting it serves [its purpose], it's got its strengths, and radio, when it's used in the right way, look what it did give people during the last couple of months. I think that it shows that it's still alive, still vital if it's looked after well and managed well as well, and talent is encouraged to connect with their audience as well, and not just interview reality stars and talk about last night's TV and all of that kind of radio which there's an awful lot around of up and down the dial.''
More of Radio Today's chat with O'Connell will be released next week.
For now, you can hear more of the chat, and a dissection of his viewpoints on this week's Radio Today Tonight podcast below.
The podcast also explores the Hit Network's music strategy, and Kyle Sandilands' latest rumble with ARN bosses.

British Columbia has confirmed its first case of a rare inflammatory illness in children linked to COVID-19.
At her Thursday briefing, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said the case of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, known as MIS-C, involved a child younger than five who had since recovered and returned home.

''When we called a syndrome, that means there's a bunch of different things that can happen and it's a combination of them that fit you into this criteria,'' Henry said.
''So a syndrome is something when we don't know exactly what's causing it or '... you could have a constellation of things that might lead to (it).''

Along with a positive COVID-19 test, children under the age of 19 are diagnosed with MIS-C when they require hospitalization and have a fever for at least three days.
They must also present at least two of the following symptoms: Gastrointestinal issues, a rash, red or inflamed eyes or inflammation and swelling around the mouth, hands or feet.
A number of the symptoms can also be associated with a similar post-infection condition known as Kawasaki disease, Henry said.
''This is a syndrome that tends to come up several weeks to months after an infection,'' she said.
''All of the other kids, the young people that had it, that were in hospital here in B.C., the 16 others, none of them had any tests that were positive for COVID and were likely, according to their clinicians, much more likely to be associated with some other cause.''

The syndrome can lead to damaged blood vessels as well as inflammation around the heart or blood vessels, Henry said.
According to the BC Centre for Disease Control, children with MIS-C can become critically ill or even die.

The U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, which declared MIS-C a ''new threat,'' said on Oct. 1 that more than 1,000 cases of the syndrome and 20 deaths had been confirmed in the United States.
Henry said the case was an important warning about the need to restrict the spread of COVID-19.
''We know that children are much less likely to be infected with with COVID and to have very mild symptoms, but we can't always tell who is going to have these severe outcomes,'' she said.
''So it is important that all of us bear that in mind '-- we are still learning about this virus, we do not yet know if there are going to be long-term effects, even for people who have mild illness.''

''We are living in the Trump era,'' the professor said. ''And look, those policies kill our people. You can't get access to good health care, good insurance.''
Cooper said that research points to black women losing less weight and at a slower rate than do white women, claiming that public health practitioners tie increased stress to a change in metabolism.
''It's literally that the racism that you're experiencing and the struggle to make ends meet actually means the diet don't [sic] work for you the same,'' she adds.
Campus Reform followed up with Cooper about her appearance on the show and the professor suggested there was a scholarly basis for her remarks.
''I wasn't making an argument about Trump admin policies and weight,'' the professor said. ''Dr. Arline Geronimus' research from the 1990s argues pretty convincingly that black women have physiological stress responses to racial stimuli and this affects our long term health. I was citing this body of work and the president's status as a racially polarizing figure that contributes to issues of racial stress for people of color.''

Campus Reform asked Cooper how she promotes her values in her professional life.
''What I hope my students learn in my classroom is how to be good scholars, critically informed thinkers able to come to well-researched and accurate conclusions, and discerning evaluators of what are credible versus less credible news sources.''

VIDEO - Adam Schiff Accuses Trump Of Helping Kremlin 'Propaganda Coup' By Touting Hunter Biden Emails | The Daily Caller
Sat, 17 Oct 2020 11:56
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff on Friday accused President Donald Trump of handing the Kremlin a ''propaganda coup'' by touting a New York Post story detailing purported emails from Hunter Biden's computer.
Schiff made the claim on CNN even though the Biden campaign and Hunter Biden have not disputed the veracity or the origin of the emails.
''This particular smear '... has come from the Kremlin, and there it is from the Oval Office, another propaganda coup from Vladimir Putin, showing the president of the United States holding up a newspaper crediting Kremlin propaganda,'' Schiff told CNN's Wolf Blitzer.
He was responding to a photo of Trump holding up a copy of the New York Post from Wednesday that bore the headline: ''Biden Secret E-Mails.''
Despite Schiff's allegations, no evidence has yet appeared to support the theory that Russia was involved in obtaining or releasing the Biden emails.
To be sure, numerous questions remain about how the documents made their way to the Post and whether they have been altered or fabricated.
Proponents of the theory of Russian meddling have cited Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani's involvement in providing the emails to the Post. (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Giuliani Explains How He Verified Hunter Biden's Emails)
Giuliani for the past two years has investigated Hunter Biden's work for Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings, as well as his business dealings in China. The former New York City mayor has worked with a stable of characters to dig up Biden dirt, including Arkady Derkach, a Ukrainian lawmaker who the U.S. government sanctioned last month because of his ties to Russia.
But Giuliani insists that he obtained the emails from the owner of a computer repair store in Delaware who claims they came from a laptop that Hunter Biden dropped off at his shop last year.
The shop owner, John Paul Mac Isaac, told the Post that a man he believed to be Biden dropped the computer off for repair in April 2019 but never came back to retrieve it.
He said he copied the computer's hard drive in December 2019 before turning it over to federal prosecutors in response to a subpoena. He shared a copy of the hard drive with Giuliani within recent weeks.
While Democrats have suggested that the emails are part of a disinformation campaign, the Biden campaign and lawyers for Hunter Biden have not disputed the veracity of the emails. They have also not denied that Biden dropped his computer off at the repair shop last year.
According to the Associated Press, the FBI is investigating whether the Russian government played a role in the Hunter Biden email release.
Schiff himself may have promoted Russian disinformation during his numerous investigations of Trump. He touted the infamous Steele dossier, which alleged that the Trump campaign conspired with the Kremlin to influence the 2016 election.
A Justice Department report said that the FBI received evidence that Russian intelligence operatives may have fed disinformation to Christopher Steele, the ex-British spy who compiled the dossier.

VIDEO-Federal tax judge allows whistleblower case against Clinton foundation to proceed | Just The News
Sat, 17 Oct 2020 10:41
A federal judge is allowing a whistleblower complaint to proceed against the Clinton Foundation, ruling the IRS "abused its discretion" in trying to dismiss allegations of nonprofit wrongdoing by one of America's most famous political families.
U.S. Tax Court Judge David Gustafson denied the Internal Revenue Service's request for a summary motion, ruling the whistleblower complaint by John Moynihan, a former Drug Enforcement Agency official, and Larry Doyle, a corporate tax compliance expert, "provided 'specific credible documentation' supporting their allegations" of possible tax-exempt legal violations by the Clinton charity based in Arkansas.
Gustafson said the agency's Whistleblower Office (WB) wrongly denied Moynihan's and Doyle's claims simply because the IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) office sent an email saying the issues in the complaint were closed. The judge said he had reason to believe from the evidence that the IRS and the FBI engaged in some investigative activity.
The record "fails to support the WBO's conclusion that CI had not proceeded with any action based on petitioners' information. Accordingly, we deny the motion on the grounds that the WBO abused its discretion in reaching its conclusion, because not all of its factual determinations underlying that conclusion are supported by that record," Gustafson wrote.
Gustafson dropped several hints of FBI involvement in an IRS investigation, quoting in his ruling from non-public information in the IRS records in which the whistleblowers discuss their contacts with law enforcement:
"The FBI in [redacted] has thanked us profusely and praised our report excessively. As one individual close to the investigation commented to me, 'you and your colleagues have saved numerous federal agents thousands of hours of work.'"
Moynihan and Doyle are financial forensic investigators who filed a complaint with the IRS alleging the Clinton Foundation violated tax laws governing tax-exempt charities. They burst onto the scene in December 2018 when they testified before a congressional committee that the Clinton Foundation wrongly operated as a foreign lobbyist by accepting overseas donations and then trying to influence U.S. policy.
The foundation "began acting as an agent of foreign governments early in its life and throughout its existence," Moynihan testified at the time. "As such, the foundation should've registered under FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act). Ultimately, the Foundation and its auditors conceded in formal submissions that it did operate as a (foreign) agent, therefore the foundation is not entitled to its 501c3 tax-exempt privileges as outlined in IRS 170 (c)2."
The Clinton Foundation has acknowledged past paperwork and compliance issues but steadfastly denies the whistleblower allegations, suggesting the investigators had a financial reward motive for making them. A spokesman for the foundation didn't return an email from Just the News seeking comment.
But the judge's ruling means the case will live on, as he asked the IRS and the whistleblowers for a schedule of next actions. The docket in the case shows Moynihan and Doyle have asked the court for permission to take a deposition from Jimmy Corley, the chief of accounting compliance for the state of Arkansas, as their next witness. The court has sealed the request.
"Order that petitioners application to take deposition of Jimmy Corley is placed under seal until further direction," a September entry in the court docket reads.
Corley did not respond to a call seeking comment Monday. His agency would have regulatory authority over any accounting firms in Arkansas that provided tax advice, audits or bookkeeping for the Clinton Foundation.
The ruling against the IRS comes as reports emerged recently that U.S. Attorney John Durham, the prosecutor named to review misconduct in the FBI's Russia collusion probe targeting President Trump, has expanded his probe to look at the bureau's conduct in investigating any allegations against the Clinton Foundation.
