May be interesting to you – was listening to the discussion on what the actual effects of the OBBB are in this most recent episode, and thought it may be worth adding info about some potential knock-on effects buried within the bill.
The bill also reduces the $200 National Firearms Act tax to $0 for suppressors, short-barrelled rifles, short-barrelled shotguns, and "Any Other Weapons." This reduction to zero tax allows lawsuits to be filed challenging the validity of still having to register these items under the NFA (possibly nullifying the NFA altogether, or at least the portion governing these items). A suit is already being filed (the "One Big Beautiful Lawsuit") by the Gun Owners of America. Previously, registration and taxation of these items was deemed constitutional because the law was written as a tax statute and not a registration scheme. Zero tax means it is now solely a registration scheme.
