Meta will use conversations people have
with its chatbots to personalize advertising and content across its
platforms, in a sign of how tech companies plan to make money from
artificial intelligence.
The owner of
Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp on Wednesday said it would use the
content of chats with its Meta AI to create advertising recommendations
across its suite of apps.
“People will
already expect that their Meta AI interactions are being used for these
personalization purposes,” said Christy Harris, privacy and data policy
manager at Meta.
Shutdown
ATC and the Shutdown
ITM Adam,
I am an air traffic controller in the western US. There is a lot on confusion regarding the government shutdown and ATC. What is happening is that congress did not pass a bill allowing the FAA to continue to operate. By law though, ATC must operate and controllers must show up to work, even during a shutdown. The FAA has emergency funding through Thursday night at midnight in the event the shutdown isn’t over by then. After that, the agency and controllers will be operating on an “IOU”. By law, all federal employees will receive back pay once the government re-opens. During the last shutdown in 2019, controllers missed 2 paychecks. On the day of the last $0 paycheck, about 10 controllers at the critical Jacksonville Center called off sick, causing severe delays. There were also excessive sickouts at other key facilities. Since controllers now know that we can use sick leave without being charged leave, there is no incentive to come to work if we’re going to get paid anyways. Our union, NATCA, is spineless and basically begging us to “do the right thing” and not call off sick. I predict once funding runs out on Friday, there will be mass sickouts, crippling airlines and forcing congress to do their job and pass a spending bill reopening the government.

CBP and the Shutdown
Hey Adam!
Just wanted to give you a boots on the ground from CBP. We were told to come to work tomorrow. No matter what.
We are HR and in charge of on boarding.. A few days ago, they were designating just three or four emoyees to come in and bring new hires on board. As of now though, we are all going to work tomorrow.
We will get a paycheck for Sep. 22ed-sep. 30th and get back pay for the rest later
But the shutdown will only really nagitivly impact us if the shutdown goes through Oct. 24th (if you're living paycheck to paycheck, even if you get backpacks later, it sucks)
Anyway,, this still seems like theater.
