Rush Limbaugh's latest conspiracy theory: the FBI is trying to distract from WikiLeaks - Vox

Less than two weeks from Election Day, news that the FBI is reviewing new information possibly pertaining to Hillary Clinton's private email server has left many questions unanswered.
People on both sides of the political aisle are calling for clarification. Others have raised questions over the timing of FBI Director James Comey's vague announcement. The straightforward response here is that Comey had previously told Congress that the FBI had reviewed all evidence and had not found anything in its investigation, and had to update the record with the latest evidence yet to be reviewed.
Rush Limbaugh had another theory '-- an unlikely and ''cynical'' (his words) one at that: Comey's letter was an intentional distraction from the recent developments in WikiLeaks' release of John Podesta's emails, which Li thinks have been starting to take a toll on the Clinton campaign.
Comey, Limbaugh said, knows that ''reopening the investigation is a big deal'' and ''is going to make everybody think for the next three or four days that there's really something to be forthcoming here.''
Here is Limbaugh's theory:
The cynical view of the FBI reopening the case in the Hillary Clinton emails goes this way: ''Comey is just doing this to take everybody's attention off of the WikiLeaks email dump. He's gonna make everybody think for the next three or four days that there's really something to be forthcoming here. I mean, opening the investigation, reopening it is a big deal. He knows that everybody's gonna say, 'Wow! There must be something brand-new that's dynamite. There must be something that's gonna just end it for her.'"
And then everybody focuses on what it is, and they drop reporting the WikiLeaks scandal, which is starting to have negative impact on the Clintons. The WikiLeaks scandal right now is starting to hurt because it's exposing the fraud and the hustling and the collusion and the corruption that's going on at the Clinton Foundation. You start messing around with things that are supposed to be charitable to serve humanity, you end up profiting personally from it, that's easy to understand. Everybody knows that's not nice.
Everybody understands that you are not supposed to get rich off of a charity, and the news here is that the Clintons have done that and are doing that. That's easy to understand. So, as Hillary starts plummeting in the polls -- eight points down in the Washington Post -- riding to the rescue is the Lone Ranger, James Comey, announcing that they're reopening the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails. Everybody stops talking about what is easily portrayed and is easily understandable in the WikiLeaks story and starts speculating on what Comey and the FBI are doing.
All the while, nobody knows.
That's the cynical view. The cynical view is that Comey is still carrying water for Clinton and is trying to get everybody to stop paying attention to the WikiLeaks dump because it's starting to have an impact.
Limbaugh's theory '-- while conspiratorial at best '-- is in line with Donald Trump's past rhetoric on the Clinton email scandal, that the FBI, the Justice Department, the media, and the election as a whole are rigged toward Clinton. It also highlights some unfortunate realities for Clinton's campaign this week.
Bad news with Obamacare, WikiLeaks' release of Podesta's emails prompting another round of ''payto play'' headlines, and news that the FBI was reopening the email server investigation make for a bad week for the Clinton campaign. And as the Washington Post's Chris Cillizza writes, ''While some large amount of the email stuff surrounding Clinton is already baked into her poll numbers and unfavorable ratings, the swirl surrounding the new news from the FBI will not help the Democratic nominee as she tries to build momentum for election day.''

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has been proven right once again. This time it has to do with a prediction he made about Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton's email scandal.
On Friday, the FBI announced in a letter to Congress that they were reopening the Clinton email investigation in light of emails unearthed in their investigation of disgraced former New York Democrat Congressman Anthony Weiner's sexting an underage girl.
On Aug. 29, not long after top Clinton aide Huma Abedin announced that she and Weiner were separating, Trump released a statement. ''Huma is making a very wise decision,'' Trump said.
''I only worry for the country in that Hillary Clinton was careless and negligent in allowing Weiner to have such close proximity to highly classified information,'' he added. ''Who knows what he learned and who he told?''

After the bombshell report about the FBI's reopened investigation first emerged Friday afternoon, the New York Times reported that the ''new emails'' that have led investigators to take a second look at the case were discovered on devices seized from Abedin and Weiner's home during a separate investigation into Weiner's alleged sexting with a minor.
Comey, in a letter to eight Republican congressional committee chairs, did not clarify what emails led him to revisit the Clinton case. He said only that investigators had recently briefed him on ''the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation.''
''And I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information,'' Comey wrote.
Trump told a crowd in New Hampshire on Friday he hopes the FBI will ''right the ship'' after the agency declined to indict Clinton in July, citing insufficient evidence of criminal intent.
Trump has been proven right to the point that the mainstream media even had to admit how right he was. That's saying something.
It will be very interesting to see what the FBI has found/will find in their investigation. The FBI certainly could be reopening the investigation to somehow help Clinton '-- perhaps there's an angle that makes this the better option '-- or maybe there is something so potentially damning that even they couldn't figure out a good way to bury it. That seems fairly unlikely, but it's hard to say.
Once again, Trump has been proven right and that's largely because he gets it. Trump has called himself a ''common sense conservative'' and the many times he's been proven right on the campaign trail, along with the many policy positions he's taken that show that he is in touch with Americans and has common sense, prove this label correct.

The F.B.I. is investigating illicit text messages that Mr. Weiner sent to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina. The bureau told Congress on Friday that it had uncovered new emails related to the Clinton case '-- one federal official said they numbered in the thousands '-- potentially reigniting an issue that has weighed on the presidential campaign and offering a lifeline to Donald J. Trump less than two weeks before the election.
In a letter to Congress, the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, said that emails had surfaced in an unrelated case, and that they ''appear to be pertinent to the investigation.''
Mr. Comey said the F.B.I. was taking steps to ''determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.'' He said he did not know how long it would take to review the emails, or whether the new information was significant.
The announcement comes as Mr. Trump has fallen behind Mrs. Clinton in most national polls and in many battleground states. Polls have been tightening in recent days, however, amid the daily release of hacked Clinton campaign emails published by WikiLeaks.
Mr. Trump seized on the F.B.I. action on Friday at a rally in New Hampshire. To cheers of ''lock her up'' from his supporters, Mr. Trump said: ''Hillary Clinton's corruption is on a scale we have never seen before. We must not let her take her criminal scheme into the Oval Office.''
After deriding the F.B.I. for weeks as inept and corrupt, Mr. Trump went on to praise the law enforcement agency.
''I have great respect for the fact that the F.B.I. and the D.O.J. are now willing to have the courage to right the horrible mistake that they made,'' Mr. Trump said. ''This was a grave miscarriage of justice that the American people fully understand. It is everybody's hope that it is about to be corrected.''
The Clinton campaign did not immediately respond to the development. As Mrs. Clinton arrived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she waved at the press gathered on the tarmac but ignored shouted questions.
The Republican National Committee also cheered the new attention on Mrs. Clinton's emails as a potential turning point in the race.
''The F.B.I.'s decision to reopen their criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton's secret email server just 11 days before the election shows how serious this discovery must be,'' Reince Priebus, chairman of the R.N.C., said in a statement. ''This stunning development raises serious questions about what records may not have been turned over and why, and whether they show intent to violate the law.''
In September, Mr. Comey announced that the F.B.I. had closed the investigation after determining that no one should face criminal charges. But Mr. Comey did criticize Mrs. Clinton and her aides for what he termed the ''extremely careless'' handling of sensitive information.

Who Is Melania Trump?

She is the ultimate embodiment of Donald Trump's bargain with the electorate.Credit Illustration by Barry BlittIn July of 2002, two years before Donald Trump became engaged to the Slovenian model Melania Knauss, he visited her native country for three hours. The couple had been in London. At around 8 P.M. on a Monday night, they landed at Ljubljana's Brnik airport in Trump's Boeing 727. Viktor and Amalija Knavs'--the former Melanija's parents; she'd long ago changed her name'--awaited them. The party, which included Trump's longtime executive assistant Norma Foerderer, proceeded directly to a pair of black Mercedeses. After a thirty-minute drive, they arrived at the Grand Hotel Toplice, a luxury property on Lake Bled. Entering the hotel's restaurant through a side door, they were shown to a table with a view. Trump and Knauss sat on one side; the Knavses and Foerderer on the other, in what later became the manner of contestants on ''The Apprentice.'' The restaurant had been cleared of patrons. Over virgin cocktails (Trump had a Diet Coke*), onion escalope with pan-fried potatoes, and forest blueberries, Melania interpreted. Trump declined coffee. ''Is this place for sale?'' he asked his future father-in-law on the way out, according to the journalists Bojan Požar and Igor Omerza. He was back at the airport before midnight.
Donald Trump, it is worth stating, is married to an immigrant. Should he be elected, Melania will become the first foreign-born First Lady since Louisa Adams, though Louisa Adams doesn't really count, as her father was an American, and from a politically connected family that hopped back and forth between England and its newly liberated colonies. As Louisa Thomas writes in her new biography of Mrs. Adams, ''Americanness was forcefully impressed'' upon her and her siblings. Her father named one of her sisters, born in 1776, Carolina Virginia Marylanda. The girls, seven of them, were told that they must marry Americans.
Louisa Adams played the harp, wrote satirical dramas, and raised silkworms. (She also survived fourteen pregnancies, including nine miscarriages and a stillbirth.) Melania Trump's hobbies, she told People, include Pilates and reading magazines. She was born in Novo Mesto, in what was then Yugoslavia, in 1970, and raised in a Communist apartment block in Sevnica, a pretty riverside town where a smuggled Coke was a major treat. Later, according to her Web site, she was ''jetting between photo shoots in Paris and Milan.'' She met Trump in 1998 at the Kit Kat Club in New York, at a party thrown by Paolo Zampolli, the owner of a modelling agency. Their courtship story is as chaste as its backdrop is louche: Donald saw Melania, Donald asked Melania for her number, but Donald had arrived with another woman'--the Norwegian cosmetics heiress Celina Midelfart'--so Melania refused. Donald persisted. Soon, they were falling in love at Moomba. They broke up for a time in 2000, when Donald toyed with the idea of running for President as a member of the Reform Party'--''TRUMP KNIXES KNAUSS,'' the New York Post declared'--but soon they were back together. Donald proposed to her on the night of the Costume Institute Gala in 2004, and now Melania, who once lived a quiet life in the Zeckendorf Towers, on Union Square, lives a quiet life in the Trump Tower, on Fifth Avenue. House rules require that guests don surgical booties, so as not to scuff the marble floors.
Trump's mother was an immigrant, too, from Scotland; his first wife was born Ivana ZelnÄkov, in Zln, Czechoslovakia. If he's as concerned as he says he is by all the ''people that are from all over and they're killers and rapists and they're coming into this country,'' he might consider building a wall around his pants. He stresses that his family members were legal immigrants. Melania came to New York to work as a model. Through a quirk in immigration law, models, nearly half of them without high-school diplomas, are admitted on H-1B visas, as highly skilled workers, along with scientists and computer programmers, who are required to show proof of a college degree. ''The H-1B program is neither high-skilled nor immigration: these are temporary foreign workers, imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay,'' Trump said, in March, railing against ''rampant, widespread H-1B abuse.''
''Don't you love that new-handcar smell?''Melania got her green card in 2001 and became a citizen five years later. Trump's family members could afford their rectitude. Hiring a lawyer, as anyone who has settled in a foreign country can attest, is often the larger part of being legal. Melania has expressed little solidarity with less fortunate newcomers. ''I came here for my career, and I did so well, I moved here,'' she told Harper's Bazaar. ''It never crossed my mind to stay here without papers. That is just the person you are. You follow the rules. You follow the law. Every few months you need to fly back to Europe and stamp your visa.''
In the ''My World'' section of her Web site, she characterizes herself as a former design and architecture student, ''a captivating presence in front of the camera,'' ''an aqua-eyed beauty,'' a wife, a mother, a philanthropist, a New Yorker, and a participant in ''numerous television commercials, most recently for Aflac,'' in which she ''stars with one of America's top icons, the Aflac duck.'' Still, she is an enigmatic presence, often remaining silent, her changeless squint less a mirror of her soul than a slick of Vantablack. She has been largely absent from the campaign trail, preferring, she says, to stay at home with Barron, her ten-year-old son with Donald. Lately, she has been appearing more frequently, in the hope of appealing to female voters, who view Trump unfavorably by a ratio of more than three to one. She sticks to a repertoire of stock answers: ''He is an amazing negotiator,'' ''We are both very independent.'' She has a jewelry line, a skin-care line (the prize ingredient is French sturgeon eggs), and a thing for the phrase ''from A to Z'' (''I follow from A to Z,'' ''I'm from A to Z hands on,'' ''I'm involved from A to Z with every piece I design''). Her husband seems to define her largely by her physical advantages, which confer upon him an aura of sexual potency. ''Where's my supermodel?'' he yelled from the stage, at a town-hall meeting at the University of Pennsylvania, in 1999, shortly after ushering Melania onto the Howard Stern show to discuss the couple's ''incredible sex'' and her lack of cellulite.
The temptation is to dismiss Melania as a dummy, a compliant figure remarkable less for her personality than for her proportions. ''I saw her becoming a jointed doll on which certain rags are hung,'' Hilary Mantel wrote of Kate Middleton's transformation into the Duchess of Cambridge. But the metaphor doesn't really work for Melania, whose fashion choices, sumptuous though they are, are largely ignored by the American public. Monica Lewinsky sold out a lipstick (Club Monaco Beauty Sheer Lipstick in Glaze) and Sarah Palin caused a run on a line of eyeglasses (Kazuo Kawasaki 704s), but there is no ''Melania effect.'' Her clothes are surprisingly incidental. Cloth coat? Fur coat? No idea. Her most memorable outfit is a bearskin rug and diamond cuffs. See British GQ, January, 2000, ''Bed in the Clouds.''
Melania Trump, it turns out, is the perfect body on which to hang a brand. If First Ladies have traditionally been public-service announcements, then she is a slickly produced advertorial'--we marvelled at Michelle's arms, because it seemed that they could be ours, if only we were willing to work as hard as she did, but you don't hear anyone (other than her husband) talking about Melania's legs. Unlike Teresa Heinz Kerry, who rhapsodized about her childhood in Mozambique, Melania is a foreigner with seemingly no affinity for her homeland. Unlike Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who entered the lys(C)e with four decades of high living behind her, she is a model with the past of a nun. Melania stayed away from ''the scene,'' and had ''no history of boyfriends,'' the photographer Antoine Verglas told the Washington Post (recalling Diana Spencer's uncle, Lord Fermoy, who assured the press, in 1981, that his niece ''has never had a lover''). Another friend from Melania's modelling days told Charlotte Hays, the author of ''The Fortune Hunters: Dazzling Women and the Men They Married,'' that Melania brought to mind ''strawberry ice cream, sweet and smells nice.'' Her story is so vacuous as to almost require the imagination to spackle its holes. On the site Yonder News, the Slovenian-born journalist Andrej Mrevlje considered'--in what amounted to an inspired piece of non-fan fiction'--whether Melania could ever undergo a transformation similar to that of Veronica Lario, Silvio Berlusconi's ex-wife:
She gave Berlusconi three children and lived in a ''castle'' like Melania does. Then Veronica met an intellectual'--a philosopher and former mayor of Venice'--Massimo Cacciari, and became radicalized. She'd had enough of her husband's nonsense. . . . She filed for divorce and started the end of the Berlusconi era. All this after the whole country failed to get rid of him.
''We've put so much effort into breaking up it would be a shame not to.''November 27, 2006Trump put his name on Melania. For the scores of Americans who thrill to his eponymous high-rises and video games and steaks, that makes her a winner. They can't marry him, so, in order for them to become Trumps, he would have to be their father. The infatuation with Trump is essentially a mass adoption fantasy. He is Daddy Warbucks without the New Deal vibe.
There is plenty of fluidity, anyway, in the Trump family tree. Trump, speaking to Howard Stern about Ivanka, his ideologically supple elder daughter, said, ''She's six feet tall, she's got the best body.'' (She calls her father ''one of the great advocates for women'' and, like him, has given heavily to both Republican and Democratic causes.) Ivanka, an executive vice-president at the Trump Organization, has served as her father's stand-in spouse for most of the campaign. She escorted him onstage when he announced his candidacy, in June, as Melania looked on; advises him on policy; and has travelled with him around the country. Melania, meanwhile, speaks of ''my two boys'--my big boy and my little boy.'' A couple of Trump's eight grandchildren are more or less the same age as their Uncle Barron. Trump plays into the ur-paternal dynamic by repeating his desire to ''protect'' and ''take care of'' people. ''Make America Great Again'' really means ''Make America Rich Again.'' What easier way to cash in than by glomming on to a wealthy relative?
Trump's stopover at Lake Bled was the only time he has been to Slovenia. He didn't visit Sevnica, Melania's home town, where her parents still have a house. He didn't make it to Raka, where her maternal grandfather accidentally cross-bred a Ptuj and an Egyptian, creating the famed Raka red onion. It has been reported that, out of four hundred and fifty guests at the Trumps' wedding, three'--Viktor and Amalija and Melania's sister, Ines'--were Slovenians. ''He speaks English. That's it. And that's O.K.,'' Melania told Harper's Bazaar, referring to her husband. ''I'm not that kind of wife who would say, 'Learn this' or 'Learn that.' I'm not a nagging wife.''
Yet Melania appears to have internalized many aspects of Donald's culture: his ahistoricism; his unblinking gall; his false dichotomies between murderous scofflaws and deserving citizens, women who ask for nothing and nagging wives. Like Donald, Melania doesn't drink. She never breaks ranks, not even with a teasing criticism. ''I like him the way he is,'' she has said, of Donald's hair. She has taken on her husband's signature pout, in a connubial version of people who grow to look like their dogs. In 2013, Donald tweeted, ''I love watching the dishonest writers @NYMag suffer the magazine's failure.'' One of them, Dan Amira, retaliated, writing, ''Your wife is waiting for you to die.'' One couldn't help but detect Donald's influence when Melania fired off a reply: ''Only a dumb 'animal' would say that! You should be fired from your failing magazine!'' (Last week, when Julia Ioffe reported in GQ that Melania has an unacknowledged half brother, Trump supporters flooded social media with images of Ioffe that they'd doctored to depict her, among other things, wearing a yellow star in a concentration camp.) Melania is the ultimate embodiment of Trump's bargain with the American electorate. If the Obama promise was that he was you, the Trump promise is that you are him.
Kati Marton, in ''Hidden Power: Presidential Marriages That Shaped Our History,'' argues that, in a time when the Presidency entails significant physical isolation, the role of the First Spouse'--the first person the President speaks to in the morning and the last at night'--is crucial. Marton defines the Presidency as a two-person job, a live/work gig that, combining executive and ceremonial roles, necessarily replicates aspects of the royal court. ''If we suddenly had as First Lady a model, whom we would look to for fashion tips alone, that would be a transformative moment, and I think with serious consequences,'' Marton told me recently. ''If the President has got a smart, plugged-in partner who can get his attention and tell him what's going on in the land, and when he's being an idiot, as the best ones have been able to do, that is in our interest. Everybody else serves at his pleasure.'' A passive First Spouse, Marton said, can hurt not only her husband but the nation. Melania Trump, she added, would be ''the least experienced and the least prepared First Lady in history.''
January 10, 2011If we take the office of First Lady seriously, then it's worth trying to figure out who Melania is as a person, versus a product to be placed. The most thorough biographical account is ''Melania Trump: The Inside Story,'' a book by Bojan Požar and Igor Omerza that has been available, in English, on Kindle since mid-February. (A print version will appear in June.) Požar is Slovenia's leading gossip columnist. Omerza is a former politician and publisher. They have turned over every pebble in Novo Mesto and Sevnica and Ljubljana and beyond. ''Melanija's aunt, Olga UlÄnik, born on 30 October 1943 in Judendorf-Strassengel, was an absolute phenom in school,'' they write. ''She averaged excellent grades from 1950 to 1954, even finishing the last year with straight As except for one B in geometry.'' (A Trump spokesperson has called the book ''untrue and dishonest'--full of lies.'')
Melania emerges as a cool, self-possessed young woman who, even amid the political ferment of her late adolescence'--Slovenia gained independence in 1991'--never wanted anything other than to be a model. ''Everything that had to do with fashion and beauty interested her, and she discovered her own talent for design and creation at an early age,'' Požar and Omerza write. ''In her father's garage, for instance, she cleaned, repaired, and repainted a dilapidated old cart and turned it into a plant holder; she was also very fond of knitting wool.''
Melania's big break came in 1992, when the Slovenian women's magazine Jana put on its Look of the Year contest. ''For a long time the world of high fashion, runways, and top models who smile at us from ads in luxury publications and who appear in the most influential TV commercials around the world was nearly unattainable for Slovenian girls,'' the magazine wrote. The competition appears to have been battily hellacious. ''When Ms. Weidler stepped out of her limousine in front of the hotel in GradiÅÄe,'' Požar and Omerza write, ''she took one look at the young women and exclaimed, 'Wunderbar, how many perfect girls there are!' ''
The stakes were high, though. Jana promised that the winners would be able to ''take their place alongside the most well-known and popular European models, sharing with them the market, the fame'--and the money. The earnings in this otherwise extremely difficult and demanding profession are of course astronomic, and most mere mortals get dizzy just thinking about the sums.'' The top three girls would be offered contracts in Europe (Paris, Milan, and Vienna, respectively). Melania, who had already done a shampoo commercial, was a runner-up. According to Požar and Omerza, she was devastated. The details of her modelling career between 1992 and 1996, when she moved to New York, are a little hazy, but she went on to have reasonable success, working mostly in print.
Požar and Omerza have a mildly antagonistic history with Melania'--a Trump lawyer threatened to sue Požar after he published a newspaper story alleging that she had fake breasts. At one point, they write, they went to photograph the Knavses' house, and were pursued by Viktor in ''what could only be called cinematic car chase.'' But their reporting is exhaustive, and often backed up with documents and photographs. Despite some creepy overreaches (''He is also supposedly the first man to have ever slept with Melania''), they make a persuasive case that Melania has often retailed the basic details of her life as hyperbolically as Trump does his condominiums. Her mother, she told Mika Brzezinski, was ''in the fashion industry for a long time.'' Melania has also referred to her as ''a fashion designer.'' As Požar and Omerza show, Amalija was an employee of the state-owned Jutranjka textile factory, where she worked as a pattern maker from 1964 until her retirement, in 1997.
They call out other fudges: Melania has claimed to have won first place in the Look of the Year contest; her Web site states that she obtained a degree in architecture and design from the University of Ljubljana when in fact she dropped out in her first year. Let's assume, for a moment, that Melania does have Donald's ear. Imagine the game of geopolitical telephone that might ensue after a state dinner, with each of them trying to persuade the other how he or she killed with Xi or Netanyahu.
''Do you speak any Spanish?'' Barbara Walters asked Trump in November. ''No,'' he replied. ''This is an English-speaking country, remember?'' It must be a bizarre feeling to be Donald Trump and to have a multilingual son who, at one point, spoke English with a Slovenian inflection. (''He has an accent?'' Larry King asked, in puzzlement, when the family appeared on his show in 2010.) Trump had no problem lumping Columba Bush, who came to America legally, with other ''Mexican illegals,'' or mocking Jeb Bush on the ground that he ''speaks Mexican.'' (Trump retweeted both comments.) Yet Melania's speech suggests that she hasn't entirely dropped Slovenian. And Trump's in-laws, who don't speak English, spend a significant portion of the year in New York, helping with Barron. Running parallel to Trump's belief in American exceptionalism is a sort of personal exceptionalism: the rules, even if he makes them, don't apply to him.

MELANIA: Well, I needed to put mine anyway because if you want to become an American citizen you need to put the birth certificate. I have a birth certificate from Slovenia, and do you want to see President Obama birth certificate or not?
BEHAR: I've seen it.
MELANIA: It's not a birth certificate.
BEHAR: Well, it's a certificate of live birth, which they give. But, Melania, if he insists on what he's saying, then no one in Hawaii can ever run for President. Because they all get the same live-birth certificate.
MELANIA: Well, but they need to have'--
BEHAR: Bette Midler is finished, for example!
MELANIA: They need to have, and, in one way, it would be very easy if President Obama just show it. It's not only Donald who wants to see it. It's American people, who voted for him, and who didn't voted for him, they want to see that!
It takes a lot of guts, being the Melania, as the show styled her. Can you imagine, for a moment, mustering the self-belief to put yourself forward as the First Lady of a European country?
Melania is, by many accounts, a privately pleasant person. Charlotte Hays reports that she's been described as ''too nice for New York.'' We must thus conclude that she wants to be perceived as aloof. At times, she seems even to be trolling the nation's working parents. ''I don't have a nanny,'' she told Bazaar. ''I have a chef, and I have my assistant, and that's it. I do it myself.'' (''Yes, there is a young woman, someone who works with Barron,'' Donald admitted to the Post.)
Siddhartha Mitter has written that ''Trump's variation on boilerplate nativist politics is that he talks non-stop about money. It's like a prosperity gospel for white grievance.'' Melania's cultivated extravagance suggests that she and her husband'--and, by association, their supporters'--preside over a natural order. If they're on top, rubbing caviar on their faces, someone must be on the bottom.
The Trumps' ostentatiously inegalitarian marriage'--it is as blinged-out with male dominance as their penthouse is with Louis XIV furniture'--can also be thought of as a marketing tool. This is the prosperity gospel for male grievance. ''I mean, I won't do anything to take care of them,'' Donald told Howard Stern, speaking of children. ''I'll supply funds and she'll take care of the kids. It's not like I'm gonna be walking the kids down Central Park.'' His pride at never having changed a diaper is the weirdest boast of omission since Bill Clinton and his marijuana cigarette. The Trumps' marriage, in business terms, might be thought of as a limited partnership, with Donald as the managing partner. His woman view is his world view: no reciprocity, no exchange, a one-way flight. '...

In a letter to Congress, the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, said that emails had surfaced in an unrelated case, and that they ''appear to be pertinent to the investigation.''
Mr. Comey said the F.B.I. was taking steps to ''determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.'' He said he did not know how long it would take to review the emails, or whether the new information was significant.
In September, Mr. Comey announced that the F.B.I. had closed the investigation after determining that no one should face criminal charges. But Mr. Comey did criticize Mrs. Clinton and her aides for what he termed the ''extremely careless'' handling of sensitive information.

Congress's top investigator said Friday that the FBI has reopened the investigation into Hillary Clinton's secret emails.
Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said on Twitter: ''FBI Dir just informed me, 'The FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation.' Case reopened.''
FBI Director James Comey had closed the case this summer, saying that while he found evidence Mrs. Clinton mishandled classified information, she was too technologically inept to know the risks she was running with national security information, so she shouldn't be charged.

Donald Trump has voiced concerns regarding the Mosul offensive that was launched last week, in particular the involvement of Iranian backed Shiite militias. He has rightly stated that the winner in the Mosul offensive will be Iran. He is absolutely correct that the Mosul offensive was poorly and politically planned instead of being entrusted to military professionals who know how to win. The primary outcome of this operation will ultimately benefit the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Obama administration shows poor judgment in launching the Mosul offensive without planning for the day after military operations are complete, nor who will ultimately control Iraq's second largest city. The problem in Iraq is political; it always has been and cannot be solved through military means alone.
Mr. Trump was also correct that the White House should not have announced previously, and in such detail, that the offensive was going to begin, instead stating that the element of surprise should have been considered.
This prior and unnecessary announcement provided ISIS months to prepare. The consequences are that ISIS and their leaders have fled Mosul, surrounded the city with IEDs, suicide car bombs, booby traps and have dug massive tunnels to significantly deter attacking coalition forces.

They have killed hundreds, if not thousands, of Mosul citizens and are using thousands of others for human shields. Reports are that ISIS senior leaders and militants have fled Mosul to Syria, traveled back to their home countries, or to the Sinai region in Egypt, in order to support the chaos in the trans-region with Libya.
In 2004, King Abdullah II of Jordan warned of the coming Shiite Crescent, referring to Iran's growing influence in Iraq and the Middle East. This warning has now become a reality with the assistance of the failed Clinton foreign policy and the poor leadership from the Obama administration. Today, the Shiite Crescent is a real threat, not only to our Sunni allies, especially Egypt and Jordan, but also presents a direct threat to the national security of the United States.
Under the Obama/Clinton administration, Iran has become the dominating and aggressive player in the Middle East. Iran's influence stretches from Afghanistan to Syria, to Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen. Hillary Clinton's failed foreign policy, her initiation of the disastrous Iranian nuclear deal, and overall bad judgment as Secretary of State allowed and emboldened Iran's influence in the region.
As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton's State Department undermined the democratic Iranian Green Movement in 2009, emboldening the Iranian regime and then went on to help spearhead the Iranian nuclear agreement, which has led to an even more aggressive Iran and provided them with billions of dollars '' money that has reportedly gone to the terrorist sponsoring Revolutionary Guards Qods Force.
Hillary Clinton's ties to Iran go beyond her policies as Secretary of State. Her campaign manager, John Podesta and his namesake-lobbying firm was the first firm to receive a contract for the post-Saddam Hussein Iraq in 2013. It was reported that the firm was selected for its close ties to Democrat leaders such as the Clintons and Vice President Joe Biden. How is it possible that the person running the campaign for the Democratic nominee was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars from a government that is influenced and controlled by Iran, the number one state sponsor of radical Islamic terrorism.
The Podesta Group signed a contract this year to represent the government of Iraq for $960,000. This is collusion and corruption at the highest levels of government.
Under no circumstances should the Obama administration be allowing Iranian backed Shiite militias to be taking part in the Mosul operations. This is unacceptable and unthinkable. There is no difference between the ideology of ISIS and the Iranian regime, except ISIS is Sunni and Iran is Shiite. They both have goals of establishing an Islamic global caliphate using military force.
Iran is directly responsible for killing at least 500 American troops in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and wounding hundreds more. Iran manufactured and supplied Shiite militias in Iraq with highly lethal bombs known as explosively formed penetrators or EFPs, which were powerful enough to destroy U.S. Humvees and breach tank hulls.
Yet today, the Obama administration is partnering with those very same radical Islamic leaders and militias that took so many American lives.
Recently, Iranian backed Houthi rebels fired shore to ship missiles targeting American ships three times over four days off the coast of Yemen. Iranian Navy ships have harassed U.S. Navy ships in the Persian Gulf numerous times and took American sailors hostage and then boldly humiliated them. Iran currently is holding American hostages demanding ransom payment. You cannot make this stuff up. Yet we continue to act as though we can deal with this terrorist sponsoring country.
The Obama administration has no plan for who will govern the majority Sunni city of Mosul after military operations. The situation in Iraq is a political problem that needed to be addressed and worked out prior to launching the military offensive, yet no such plan exists. Turkey is now insisting on participating in the military operations due to the involvement of Iranian Shiite militias.
The next administration will be responsible for handling the rapidly unraveling situation in Iraq after Mosul has been liberated. If liberation occurs before the New Year, which remains in serious doubt, Hillary Clinton has demonstrated a long track record of bad judgment, enabling our enemies and alienating our allies, and the likelihood of even more protracted conflict is high.
Donald Trump has a plan to defeat ISIS and it comes with sound components that requires a far greater role by our Middle East partners combined with strong U.S. leadership. Donald Trump is committed to bringing back American leadership to the White House and will put our people and our American interests first.

In an impassioned speech to the small crowd, David Friedman, Mr Trump's adviser on Israel, heaped criticism on Democratic candidate Mrs Clinton for her decisions as secretary of state and said Mr Trump was Israel's greatest hope.
"Under Trump, the United States will never pressure Israel into accepting a two-state solution or any other solution that is against the wishes of the Israeli people," he said, to cheers and a few shouts of "Crooked Hillary".
Mr Trump delivered a minute-long video to the rally, playing up his connections to Judaism through his daughter's marriage, saying it enhanced his respect for the faith.
"My administration will stand side-by-side with the Jewish people and Israel's leaders to continue strengthening the bridges that connect not only Jewish Americans and Israelis but also all Americans and Israelis," he said.
"Together we will make America and Israel safe again."

Like most observers, I've had 24 hours now to sit and think about the ramifications of Director Comey's decision to look again at the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of emails beyond the official State Department server. (If you're not entirely au fait with that story, go here)
Although several titles this morning are asserting that Comey has 'reopened' the case, this isn't strictly true: he merely said earlier this month that he did not envisage an indictment against Clinton. The case had remained open'....and as a result of that (allegedly) emails involving the husband (Anthony Weiner) of her leading campaign guru Huma Abedin have opened new lines of enquiry. (Weiner's propensity for sexting makes Stephen Crabb look like a Trappist monk)
But even as I write, events are developing against a background from yesterday of universal astonishment that Comey had made the enquiries public. To try and nutshell this,
Only an idiot, a rabid Trump supporter or a genuinely dedicated cop, as the director of the FBI, would do this with just ten days to go in a Presidential electionAs Comey '' although a lifelong Republican '' clearly isn't either of the first two, one is left with the awkward assumption that the new information is so explosive, it has to be made public before either candidate is sworn in. Hillary has at the moment a 91% mathematical chance of being that candidate'...and the emails scandal is about her, not The DonaldEqually damning is the desperate reaction of pro-Clinton media and blogsites, and the complaint brought by Clinton supporters via the DoJ: the latter includes the words, ''It is an obvious attack from a lifelong Republican who used to serve in the Bush White House, just to undermine her campaign''. One prominent Democrat site actually claims that the investigation ''has nothing to do with Clinton, her emails or her server'': this is not only unknown, it is extremely unlikelyAdding confusion to damnation, both the Murdoch comics Fox News and the New York Post have come down heavily on the side of the ''this is a major development'' camp. Murdoch is a major contributor to, and supporter of, the Clinton campaign '' see this earlier SlogpostI'd love to have inside track on this, but I don't: the one truly well-connected New York Democrat source I have admits to being ''completely blind-sided'' by the last-minute Comey drama.
So logical, informed speculation will have to suffice.
One thing to be clear about is that the Department of Justice is headed by Loretta Lynch, a political appointment nominated by President Obama. It is in the DoJ that the Clintons have clout and sway. It was Bill Clinton that put in the fix to crush the emails investigation, via a direct approach to Lynch.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is the junior partner here. But we should note that a former DoJ senior staffer David Rivkin told CNBC yesterday that ''It clearly is something that requires the [FBI] to take additional investigatory steps. It's not something that is sort of self-contained and can be just looked at and put to the side. So I think it's extremely serious''. Also note that Comey sent the news to Congress, not to the DoJ.
Comey '' Republican or not '' was an Obama appointment, and has an enviable record of integrity: until yesterday, Trump had been vigorously critical of the FBI boss. So one has to assume the Director thought Lynch was compromised by Clinton influence.
Last but not least, Donald Trump is claiming ''I called this months ago'' and coming out with phrases like ''the FBI has realised its mistake, and so at last justice will be done '' this is bigger than Watergate''. Fine, he would say that'...or maybe he knows more than most people realise. With so little time to go, without a put-up he'll be soundly beaten if all he does is shut-up.
The very thing the pro-Clinton camp is using to dub the revelation ''a political move'' is the very thing that could explode in their faces. The New York Times '' a newspaper in which I have zero faith '' wrote'....
the emails came from a device owned by former Congress member Anthony Weiner and his wife, top Clinton aide Huma Abedin
'....that is, not from a Clinton or State Dept server. It's a superficial defence: if Weiner '' not a man known for his discretion '' has casually mentioned a smoking gun on the same server as a top Clinton aide '' then all bets are off.

When top Bill Clinton aide Douglas Band wrote the memo, he was a central player at the Clinton Foundation and president of his own corporate consulting firm. Over the course of 13 pages, he made a case that his multiple roles had served the interests of the Clinton family and its charity.
In doing so, Band also detailed a circle of enrichment in which he raised money for the Clinton Foundation from top-tier corporations such as Dow Chemical and Coca-Cola that were clients of his firm, Teneo, while pressing many of those same donors to provide personal income to the former president.
The system has drawn scrutiny from Republicans, who say it allowed corporations and other wealthy supporters to pay for entree to a popular former president and a onetime secretary of state who is now the Democratic presidential nominee.
Band wrote the memo in 2011 to foundation lawyers conducting a review of the organization amid a brewing feud with the Clintons' daughter, Chelsea Clinton, who was taking a stronger role in leading the foundation and had expressed concerns about Teneo's operations.

The memo, made public Wednesday by the anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks, lays out the aggressive strategy behind lining up the consulting contracts and paid speaking engagements for Bill Clinton that added tens of millions of dollars to the family's fortune, including during the years that Hillary Clinton led the State Department. It describes how Band helped run what he called ''Bill Clinton Inc.,'' obtaining ''in-kind services for the President and his family '-- for personal travel, hospitality, vacation and the like.''
Band and his Teneo co-founder, former Hillary Clinton fundraiser Declan Kelly, declined to comment. But Teneo issued a statement saying that ''as the memo demonstrates, Teneo worked to encourage clients, where appropriate, to support the Clinton Foundation because of the good work that it does around the world. It also clearly shows that Teneo never received any financial benefit or benefit of any kind from doing so.''
Spokesmen for Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton and the foundation declined to comment.
Hillary Clinton campaign spokesman Glen Caplin declined to comment on the memo, calling the material ''hacked by the Russian government and weaponized by WikiLeaks.'' Caplin declined to authenticate the memo, but he also did not dispute it.
Band, who grew close to Bill Clinton two decades ago as his personal aide in the White House and became the architect of his post-presidential activities, argued in the memo that he and his firm had benefited the former president and his foundation.
''We have dedicated ourselves to helping the President secure and engage in for-profit activities,'' Band wrote. He also said he had ''sought to leverage my activities, including my partner role at Teneo, to support and to raise funds for the foundation.''
Band's memo provided data showing how much money each of Teneo's 20 clients at the time had given to the Clinton Foundation, how much they had paid Bill Clinton and, in some cases, how he or Kelly had personally forged the relationships that resulted in the payments.
Band wrote that Teneo partners had raised in excess of $8 million for the foundation and $3 million in paid speaking fees for Bill Clinton. He said he had secured contracts for the former president that would pay out $66 million over the subsequent nine years if the deals remained in place.
For instance, Band wrote that Kelly arranged for the former president to meet the chief executive of Coca-Cola in January 2009 at the Clintons' home in Washington. In all, according to Band's memo, Coke had contributed $4.33 million to the foundation between 2004 and 2010.
A Coca-Cola spokesman said the company had supported the Clinton Foundation because it believed ''in the great work that can be done when businesses, civil society and governments come together to solve problems.'' He said Teneo had been hired to provide ''business and communications'' consulting.
Band also described how Kelly helped expand a fruitful relationship with UBS Global Wealth Management, introducing Bill Clinton to a top executive at a 2009 charity dinner. In the ensuing years, UBS upped its giving to the foundation, signed on as a Teneo client and agreed to pay Bill Clinton for speeches, Band wrote.
Records show UBS paid Clinton about $2 million in speaking fees between 2011 and 2015 for a series of appearances, generally alongside former president George W. Bush. The company also paid Hillary Clinton $225,000 for a 2013 speech.
UBS declined to comment.
Another achievement cited by Band: Laureate International Universities, a chain of for-profit international colleges, which donated to the foundation and agreed to pay Bill Clinton $3.5 million a year to serve as honorary chancellor.

Clinton has credited Band with conceiving of the Clinton Global Initiative, the glitzy annual meeting where corporate, government and nonprofit leaders gathered annually to talk about the world's problems. Started in 2005, CGI became the best-known arm of the Clinton Foundation, which also operated education, environmental and health programs around the world. The final CGI meeting took place last month.
By 2011, the longtime Clinton aide was ready to strike out on his own.
That's when Band and Kelly joined forces to form Teneo. At first, the firm remained closely linked to the Clinton network.
Band described in the memo how he combined his work for CGI and Teneo. He wrote that he had used a hotel room upstairs from the 2011 CGI gathering to meet with Teneo clients. He also acknowledged giving free CGI memberships to ''target Teneo clients'' being cultivated as potential foundation donors. Memberships generally cost $20,000 a year.
Teneo, meanwhile, named Bill Clinton its ''honorary chairman.'' Clinton had been initially tapped for a three-year arrangement in which he would provide advice to Teneo ''regarding geopolitical, economic and social trends,'' according to a separate June 2011 memo that Band wrote to the State Department seeking ethics approval for the former president's employment.
Bill Clinton was initially paid $2 million by Teneo, according to ''Man of the World,'' a book written with the former president's participation by author Joe Conason.
But Chelsea Clinton grew concerned when news leaked in late 2011 that MF Global, the hedge fund owned by former New Jersey governor Jon Corzine, had been paying the Clinton-tied firm $125,000 a month just before MF Global went bankrupt.
According to emails released by WikiLeaks, Chelsea Clinton complained in December 2011 to longtime Clinton aide John Podesta, who at the time was serving as an adviser to the Clinton Foundation, that she had been informed that a member of her father's office staff who answered to Band had been making calls to British lawmakers ''on behalf of President Clinton'' for Teneo clients, particularly for the chief executive of Dow Chemical.
Chelsea Clinton wrote that the calls were occurring without her father's knowledge and that the reactions she was hearing to them would ''horrify'' Bill Clinton. In another email, she wrote she feared Teneo was ''hustling business at CGI.''
Chelsea Clinton's concerns helped spark efforts at the foundation to adopt new policies governing outside consulting agreements designed to erect a more solid wall between Bill Clinton's private and charitable activities. Emails show that Cheryl Mills, who at the time was serving as Hillary Clinton's chief of staff at the State Department, was deeply involved in the foundation's proceedings.
Bill Clinton also separated from Teneo, returning to the company all but $100,000 of the money he had been paid, tax returns show.
Emails show how the dispute between Chelsea Clinton and her father's longtime aide led to personal hostility.
''I don't deserve this from her and deserve a tad more respect or at least a direct dialogue for me to explain these things,'' Band wrote to Podesta at the time. ''She is acting like a spoiled brat kid who has nothing else to do but create issues to justify what she's doing because she, as she has said, hasn't found her way and has a lack of focus in her life.''
Band complained that no similar scrutiny was being applied to Bill Clinton himself. Band noted that he had previously signed a conflict of interest document for CGI.
''Oddly, WJC does not have to sign such a document even though he is personally paid by 3 cgi sponsors, gets many expensive gifts from them, some that are at home etc.,'' he wrote.
The Band memo disclosed by WikiLeaks on Wednesday made no direct reference to Hillary Clinton.
But Band outlined that Kelly, his Teneo co-founder, had served simultaneously between 2009 and 2011 as an unpaid economic envoy to Northern Ireland appointed by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and as head of a separate consulting company whose clients included Coke, UBS and Dow. Band wrote that the arrangement was consistent with Kelly's State Department ethics agreement.
Kelly's multiple roles came together during one State Department event in 2010, when then-Secretary Clinton recognized Dow, among other companies, for creating jobs in Northern Ireland and thanked Kelly for his work on the issue.
Dow became one of Teneo's first major clients. According to Band's memo, Dow chief executive Andrew Liveris had been introduced to Bill Clinton over a round of golf with Kelly in August 2009.
The company then increased its Clinton Foundation support, contributing $705,000 in 2010 and 2011. A Dow spokeswoman said that the company's participation in the foundation dated to 2007 and that the charity was ''aligned to core business and citizenship strategies that have positively leveraged the resources and capabilities of our company.''
Dow paid Teneo $2.8 million in 2011, payments that then jumped to $19.4 million in 2012, according to internal Dow documents made public as part of a whistleblower complaint. The company later said in public filings that the increase reflected a cost-saving decision to consolidate several consulting contracts with one firm.
But the spike raised red flags for an internal company fraud investigator, who expressed alarm that it may be linked to Bill Clinton's work with a charity founded by Liveris '-- a charge the company denied.
''It appears Dow is paying Teneo for connections with Clinton,'' the investigator wrote.

Shortly after news about newly discovered emails related to Hillary Clinton's private email server investigation broke on Friday, Republican strategist Patrick Ruffini noticed something:
Here's a closer look at what Ruffini is talking about. Around the time that the email news broke, the Dow Jones industrial average plummeted from a peak of 18,255 to a trough of 18,097. That's not quite 1 percent, but the sharp drop, albeit small, is a sign of a broader storyline that has persisted through this election: that investors are scared of a Trump presidency.
Justin Wolfers, economics professor at the University of Michigan and a contributor at the Upshot, has been writing about this phenomenon, noting that stock futures rose, for example, during the first presidential debate '-- one that (like the others) was widely perceived to be a Clinton win.

What's there to be afraid of? Well, for one thing, Trump always keeps people guessing. His supporters may like that, but markets don't.
"He's been unpredictable in terms of his behavior and even some of his rhetoric," said Mark Luschini, chief investment strategist for Janney. "The market dislikes uncertainty."
Trump has created plenty of uncertainty; he has flip-flopped often, and there's no telling how he will react to any given problem that comes his way.
And while it's true that Clinton would also be a new face in the White House, she is also running in large part on Obama's policies.
"Clinton is the status quo," Luschini said. "She's the known unknown, and he's the unknown unknown."
In addition, there's the little issue of Trump's tough talk on trade. U.S.-based multinationals derive a big chunk of their profits from overseas, Luschini says. In other words: Laws that make trade more difficult and costly really scare some big corporations.
That said, it's not necessarily that markets entirely dislike Trump's policies. In fact, Luschini says many investors may like Trump's policies better than Clinton's. Cutting regulations and taxes would give businesses more money to work with (and fewer restrictions on how they conduct their business) '-- that would make plenty of businesses happy.
On the flip side, however, there are the potential downsides to some of his policies. One widely cited study from Moody's Analytics predicted that taken together, Trump's preferred policies could create a recession. Prakken pointed to those kinds of fears as well on CNBC, noting that "some analysts suggest those policies would be quite detrimental to the economy."
The stock market has recovered some since the email news, but it's a sign of what we could see in the next 11 days '-- namely, more October (or November) surprises affecting not only poll numbers but maybe even inching people's 401(k)s higher or lower.

Federal employees are forbidden from participating in political activities under the Hatch Act.
''It is absolutely absurd that FBI Director Comey would support Donald Trump like this with only 11 days to go before the election,'' said Scott Dworkin, Senior Advisor to the Democratic Coalition Against Trump. ''It is an obvious attack from a lifelong Republican who used to serve in the Bush White House, just to undermine her campaign. Comey needs to focus on stopping terrorists and protecting America, not investigating our soon to be President-Elect Hillary Clinton.''
Outrage is growing over Comey's actions as details about the FBI investigation have revealed that it has nothing to do with Clinton, her emails, or her server.
Director Comey's motives for sending the letter 11 days before a presidential election have been questioned by both Republicans and Democrats.
If Comey's actions were politically motivated, he would be in violation of the Hatch Act.
What Republicans initially viewed as a new hope in the presidential election has quickly been exposed as a desperately political ploy.
The American people deserve a full explanation from Director Comey, because the letter that was released today raises more questions than answers.

''Google stopped this sign-in attempt. You should change your password immediately.'' And it then offered a link to change his password.
''This is a legitimate email,'' Charles Delevan at the HFA help desk wrote to Podesta's chief of staff, Sara Latham. ''John needs to change his password immediately, and ensure that two-factor authentication is turned on his account.''

Delevan included the Gmail link that would be used to change a user's password, but whoever changed Podesta's password instead clicked on the shortened URL that was in the original phishing email. This is the same technique used to hack Colin Powell's emails and the Democratic National Committee emails, according to the website Motherboard.
All of these hacks were executed using these shortened URLs in fake emails, according to Motherboard, and those URLs ''were created with a Bitly account linked to a domain under the control of Fancy Bear,'' a group of Russian hackers.
In October, WikiLeaks began releasing thousands of Podesta's emails daily before the November presidential election.

Huma Abedin initially met Hillary in Saudi Arabia in 1996, when Bubba was still in the White House, diddling interns. Since then, Gennifer Flowers said in her autobiography that Bill Clinton told her Hillary was bisexual, and that they had an 'open marriage'. Another source close to both Hillary and Huma confirmed that their affair rumors where true as well.Curiously, Huma Abedin also appears to be in a sham marriage, otherwise what she's doing with grating Jewish geek Anthony Wiener would be anybody's guess. And why would such an attractive, successful, high-profile woman stay after being so comprehensively humiliated by Wiener's idiotic 'sexting' scandal, other than cover for a lesbian affair with Hillary and/or political access/intelligence re the US (and Israel)? An odd couple if ever there was one, she seems to have some other motivations for being with this weasly pervert (I wonder who gave him the idea to run for mayor of #1 terrorist target/under-mosqued NYC!). While most of this may be conjecture, you need to ask yourself why her Muslim Brotherhood relatives didn't denounce her for marrying an evil Jew. Fact is, Abedin was never properly vetted in the first place... and her own MOTHER has been reported to be a member of the Muslim Brotherhood(!) Meanwhile, Daddy was a professor in Saudi Arabia, and founded an organization supported by the Brotherhood as well.And that's not all: Huma Abedin has a brother named Hassan who's listed as a fellow and partner (with a number of Muslim Brotherhood members on the board) at Oxford University. Unsettlingly, Oxford has long been infiltrated by Islamists who founded the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS). Hassan Abedin collaborates with Omar Naseef and Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi -two of the most influential terror supporters in the world.Myriad connections -and favors exchanged- between both Clintons and the Islamic Brotherhood go back a number of years and are complex, multifaceted, and troubling to any thinking person.
Huma Abedin initially met Hillary in Saudi Arabia in 1996, when Bubba was still in the White House, diddling interns. And why would such an attractive, successful, high-profile woman stay after being so comprehensively humiliated by Wiener's idiotic 'sexting' scandal, other than cover for a lesbian affair with Hillary and/or political access/intelligence re the US (and Israel)? Apparently, the FBI forgot to visit the Cornell Law Library. Word for word from the Cornell Law Library, Former United States Attorney General Michael Mukasey tells MSNBC that not only are Hillary Clinton's private email and server illegal, her mishandling of government property (e.g. State Department emails) ''disqualifies'' her from holding any federal office. Very specifically points to one federal law, Title 18. Section 2071.

Weiner, the husband of Mrs. Clinton's closest aide, Huma Abedin, was running for mayor of New York when news broke that he had continued to exchange lewd messages with women online after the practice cost him his congressional seat. This time, he used the embarrassing Spanish-inspired moniker.

Federal investigators looking into his sexual messaging with an underage girl stumbled uponthousands of emails potentially pertinent to the F.B.I. inquiry into Mrs. Clinton's private email server.
The jolting development highlighted not only the intersecting lives of Mrs. Clinton, Ms. Abedin and Mr. Weiner, but also the pattern that has characterized the Clintons' relationships with the sometimes oddly behaving inhabitants of their insular world: Even amid accusations of sexual or financial impropriety, the Clintons' first instinct is to hunker down and protect those in their orbit, sometimes leading to more ugly eruptions later and, eventually, to messy public breakups.

On Friday, several of Mrs. Clinton's friends and allies suggested she distance herself from Ms. Abedin, a painful prospect given that Mrs. Clinton has described Ms. Abedin as a surrogate daughter and has relied on her more than anyone else during her nearly two-year pursuit of the White House.
The two women's closeness has both intimidated those in the Clinton circle of status-conscious advisers and caused envy. Even as Mrs. Clinton learned on Friday that the F.B.I.'s interest in her email server, which she thought had ended in July, had reignited, Ms. Abedin was by her side as she prepared to make a statement to the news media in Des Moines.
Pressed by a reporter there about the emails' having been discovered during the investigation into Mr. Weiner's sexting, Mrs. Clinton dismissed the reports as ''rumors.''
Mrs. Clinton has always been circumspect about Mr. Weiner and her feelings toward him. She has steadfastly supported Ms. Abedin, 40, as the younger woman stood by her husband, despite the public ridicule and career damage that resulted from his behavior. The Clintons have never publicly criticized Mr. Weiner.
It was only two months ago that Ms. Abedin announced that she was separating from her husband, after she learned that The New York Post planned to publish a story reporting that Mr. Weiner had sent a picture of his crotch to a woman online as he lay next to the couple's 4-year-old son in bed. Mrs. Clinton was vacationing in the Hamptons at the time and stayed away from the story.
Privately, aides to Mrs. Clinton suggested on Friday that Ms. Abedin would remain alongside Mrs. Clinton for the final, breakneck stretch of the campaign. But some senior Democrats are now wondering whether, if Mrs. Clinton is elected, she will be able to bring Ms. Abedin along with her for what was once widely expected to be a senior role in the White House.

Mrs. Clinton's loyalty to Ms. Abedin (and vice versa) stems from the decades they have spent working closely together, beginning when Ms. Abedin was a 19-year-old intern to the first lady in the 1990s.
At the State Department, Ms. Abedin served as deputy chief of staff to Mrs. Clinton. Emails released by the State Department captured the closeness of their relationship. A jet-lagged Mrs. Clinton once emailed Ms. Abedin at 12:21 a.m. to take her up on an offer to come over to Mrs. Clinton's house for a chat. ''Just knock on the door to the bedroom if it's closed,'' she wrote.
Ms. Abedin's loyalty and strong identification with both Clintons was conspicuous at the State Department. At a staff meeting in early 2009, she was going through a list of requests from ''the president.'' When others in the room looked at her in puzzlement, Ms. Abedin clarified: ''Not President Obama. Our president: Bill Clinton.''
Ms. Abedin's high profile and proximity to Mrs. Clinton also brought her scrutiny. Senator Charles E. Grassley, Republican of Iowa and chairman of the Judiciary Committee, has questioned Ms. Abedin's arrangement to earn income privately while she worked for Mrs. Clinton at the State Department. In addition to being on Mrs. Clinton's personal payroll, Ms. Abedin received money from the Clinton Foundation and Teneo, a consulting firm co-founded by Douglas J. Band, a former senior aide to Mr. Clinton. And some of Ms. Abedin's emails on Mrs. Clinton's private server led to accusations that foundation donors had received special access to the State Department.
Through it all, Mrs. Clinton and her longtime adviser Philippe Reines have fiercely protected Ms. Abedin.
Mrs. Clinton played a part in introducing Ms. Abedin and Mr. Weiner, then a brash and outspoken Democratic congressman from New York. In August 2001, the young congressman asked Ms. Abedin, then an aide to Mrs. Clinton in the Senate, if she would go out for a drink. Standing behind Mrs. Clinton, Ms. Abedin waved her arms at her boss and shook her head ''no.'' ''Of course all you young people should go out,'' Mrs. Clinton said.

Mr. Weiner eventually won Ms. Abedin's affections in January 2007, when he sat between Mrs. Clinton and her rival, then-Senator Barack Obama, at President George W. Bush's State of the Union address. ''I appreciate you looking out for my boss,'' Ms. Abedin texted him. They went out for coffee and were married in July 2010; Mr. Clinton performed the ceremony.
Ms. Abedin and Mrs. Clinton's personal lives have in some ways taken parallel tracks, with each woman choosing to forgive her husband's humiliating transgressions.
Others close to Mrs. Clinton have not been as understanding. On a campaign conference call the day that Mr. Weiner admitted he had continued to engage in online liaisons, Mr. Reines berated him, yelling that he would ''reach through the phone'' and ''rip out'' his throat, adding an expletive.
And some advisers to the Clintons were exasperated earlier this year to learn that Mr. Weiner and Ms. Abedin were bringing about another distraction: The couple had permitted a behind-the-scenes documentary about Mr. Weiner's circuslike mayoral bid to be made, resurrecting the sexting stories once again.
But deciding how to handle the current situation could be especially difficult. Cutting out employees who prove politically damaging may seem like Politics 101, but for the Clintons, it has never been easy, particularly when it comes to their oldest and most loyal aides. Ms. Abedin and Mr. Band both started as White House interns, spent their formative years working for the Clintons and ultimately brought unwelcome headlines to their bosses.
Before the email news broke on Friday, Mrs. Clinton's campaign was answering questions about Mr. Band's private consulting firm, Teneo, and its ties to the Clinton Foundation. ''I think voters, first of all, understand that Hillary Clinton is the candidate that's on the ballot, not Doug Band,'' her campaign manager, Robby Mook, told reporters on Friday.
It remained to be seen whether he would soon need to say the same of Ms. Abedin.

The father of the pupil at the girl's primary school in German ski resort Garmisch-Partenkirchen discovered that his daughter had been forced to learn the Islamic prayer when he discovered a handout she had been given.
He claimed she had been "forced" by teachers to memorise the Islamic chants and forwarded the handout to Austrian news service unsertirol24.

The Sara Nussbaum House daycare centre in Kassel refused to put up a Christmas tree, tell Christmas stories or celebrate Christmas in general because it said only a minority of pupils were Christian.

More than one million migrants are estimated to have arrived in Germany during the last year alone.
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees estimates that another 200,000 people will apply for asylum in 2017.

A young woman was gang raped during the destruction of the Calais Jungle, French prosecutors revealed today.
Five men set upon the Ethiopian refugee, who cannot be named for legal reasons, as police and volunteers were clearing the sprawling slum.
The victim was examined by a forensic doctor but had difficulty explaining the attack, on Tuesday morning, because she only speaks an Ethiopian dialect.
She is currently still staying in Calais until a translator can be found, said a source.
It came as prosecutors said three suspects involved in the knifepoint rape of a 38-year-old Afghan interpreter around the squalid shantytown last week could have been people smugglers.

The attack took place on Tuesday morning when five men set upon the Ethiopian refugee, who cannot be named for legal reasons
They may now have escaped to Paris, along with hundreds of others displaced by the destruction of the Jungle, which at one point had up to 10,000 residents.
It became notorious for a range of crimes during the past few years, including rapes and other sexual assaults.
'The latest rapes are both being investigated as a matter of priority,' said a source close to both investigations, which are being led by prosecutors in nearby Boulogne-sur-Mer supported by judicial police.
'In both cases those responsible are likely to be a long way from Calais by now, but everything is being done to try and find them.'
Discussing the October 18 rape of the interpreter, who is married and lives with her husband and two children in Paris, the source said: 'She has produced a description of the three men who attacked her, but it is unreliable so will not be released as a portrait.
'The men wore hoods, and there is very little chance of finding them in Calais now. It is thought that many of the traffickers have headed for Paris in the short term.'
Massive fires were lit across the Jungle on Wednesday, hastening the end of the camp, as more than 4000 migrants were transported to centres all over France.
Today a few hundred stragglers were left in the still smouldering wreckage, as riot police wearing full body armour patrolled.
There have been migrant camps in the Calais area for at least 20 years, as thousands of residents used them as a springboard to reach the UK, where they claimed asylum or disappeared into the black economy.
But the French authorities have pledged that no more camps will be allowed, and that they will maintain a zero tolerance approach to those trying to get to Britain illegally.
Last night, French authorities declared the Calais migrant camp empty after fires set by departing migrants and anarchists accelerated plans to evacuate the slum.
But a special camp nearby for unaccompanied children is full, leaving dozens with nowhere to spend the night.

As the three-day operation to raze to the ground the squalid shantytown ended there were fears many children would be forced to sleep out in the cold tonight because a camp, made up of white converted cargo containers, is full to the brim.
'The container camp where registered minors are sleeping is full,' said Samuel Hanryon, a Doctors without Borders spokesman said.
He said: 'There is simply nowhere for unregistered minors to go. They are wandering around, lost, wondering where they will spend the night.'
Head of the France Terre d'Asile charity, Pierre Henry, confirmed: 'There is no more space in the container camp.'
The container camp was designed to house up to 1,000 unaccompanied children, whose fate is being decided by the French and British authorities.
Local officials announced the total destruction of the Jungle, where thousands fleeing war and poverty have lived in squalor as they waited for a chance to sneak across the English Channel into Britain.
'Mission accomplished,' Calais' regional prefect Fabienne Buccio told Reuters. 'There are no more migrants in the camp,' he said.
Buccio said about 5,000 migrants had gone through a processing centre in the camp before being transferred away by bus around France to seek asylum, and another 1,000 were still queuing there. Authorities said they would stop processing people by Wednesday evening.

As the reality of the mass evacuation took hold, fearful migrants from Afghanistan, Sudan, Eritrea, Syria and Pakistan braced for a new reality. Some pledged to just keep moving.
'This jungle is no good,' said Muhammad Afridi, 20, from Pakistan. 'We go to a new jungle.'
The main alley through the camp near the city of Calais burned overnight, leaving skeleton-like hulks on either side of the road. Firefighters delved into the camp's deepest recesses, trying to prevent a massive conflagration.

ESPN Loses 4 Million Subscribers In Past Year | FOX Sports

In the past five years ESPN has lost 11,346,000 subscribers according to Nielsen data.
If you combine that with ESPN2 and ESPNU subscriber losses this means that ESPN has lost over a billion dollars in cable and satellite revenue just in the past five years, an average of $200 million each year. That total of a billion dollars hits ESPN in the pocketbook not just on a yearly basis, but for every year going forward.
It's gone forever.
That's not just bad, this is downright cataclysmic.
And it's getting worse.
In the past year ESPN lost 4.159 million subscribers, that's another $350 million in lost revenue across the ESPN family of networks.
ESPN presently has 88,781,000 subscribers, down from 101,000,000 subscribers five years ago. Given that the rate of lost subscribers appears to be accelerating, if we're conservative and just project ESPN loses 3 million subscribers a year for the next five years, then the worldwide leader in sports will have just 73 million subscribers in 2021.
At that point in time ESPN would be roughly break even with the amount of money its paying for sports rights and the amount of money ESPN brings in via subscriber revenue.
So where are all these subscribers going? A good theory posited by SportsTVRatings is that the loss is happening three ways, 1. death, 2. cord nevers and 3. cord cutters. Let me unpack those three: first, older people are dying off and they're more likely to subscribe to cable than younger people, second, many younger people don't subscribe to cable at all, hence they're cord nevers and third, many of you are also cutting the cord to save money. Combine all three of these factors and all are working against the cable and satellite bundle.
So let's talk about the ESPN business model.
I've written a ton about this, but on its most basic level every channel has a cost in your cable bill. You don't realize it because your cable bill isn't broken down by individual channel cost, but ESPN is by far the most expensive channel on all our cable bills. (ESPN is the most expensive channel costing $6.60 a month. The second most expensive? TNT, which costs just $1.65 a month). Every single cable and satellite subscriber pays around $80 a year for ESPN. With 88.7 million subscribers, that means ESPN pockets around $7 billion a year just in cable and satellite subscription fees.
So what makes sports on cable TV a bubble? The fact that ESPN uses the money it receives from cable and satellite subscribers to buy sports rights. And the vast majority of those cable and satellite subscribers never watch ESPN. Your Aunt Gladys, who hasn't watched a sporting event in a decade, pays the same amount for ESPN as you do.
What does ESPN do with that money from you and Aunt Gladys and its other 88 million subscribers? It buys sports rights.
Presently ESPN is on the hook for the following yearly rights payments: $1.9 billion a year to the NFL for Monday Night Football, $1.47 billion to the NBA, $700 million to Major League Baseball, $608 million for the College Football Playoff, $225 million to the ACC, $190 million to the Big Ten, $120 million -- and potentially growing -- to the Big 12, $125 million a year to the PAC 12, and hundreds of millions more to the SEC.
At an absolute minimum it would appear that ESPN presently pays out nearly $6 billion a year to sports leagues just in rights fees.
At 73 million subscribers -- our projection for 2021 based on the past five years of subscriber losses -- ESPN would be bringing in just over $6 billion a year in yearly subscriber fees. Sure, advertising money and ESPN2 and ESPNU have to be factored in as well, but you'd also have to add in every other cost that ESPN has to run multiple networks, employee salaries, technology, everything that a major corporation with thousands of worldwide employees has to keep up. And, importantly, you also have to factor in this, ESPN's Monday Night Football contract expires at the end of 2021. Right when current projections would have them hitting just 73 million subscribers.

(This is a wild stat, but did you know that every cable and satellite subscriber who has ESPN is paying $21.50 a year for Monday Night Football games? That's whether you ever watch those games or not. That's the NFL tax that ESPN passes along to consumers.)
What will the NFL want from ESPN for Monday Night Football in 2021? More money, right? The NFL has gotten used to television revenue only going up. Will ESPN be able to afford to keep the NFL and pay more money despite having lost nearly 30% of its subscriber base in the ten years of the existing MNF contract? That seems highly unlikely doesn't it? But can ESPN exist as a network without NFL games? Remember, it's not just the NFL games, it's all the ancillary content that ESPN builds around the NFL games, think about the hours of studio programming that ESPN devotes to pro football. ESPN justifies its sky high cost per month to cable and satellite companies based on the games it provides, can ESPN extract an increase in revenue from cable and satellite subscribers when its deals expire without the NFL games? So how much more money will the NFL be able to extract from ESPN? Or will this be the moment in time when the entire sports industry finally realizes that the bubble has popped?
If the NFL isn't making the same money it always made in the past, everyone in sports is screwed.
I've been writing about the sports rights bubble for years. Most recently doing the math to point out that the NBA's insane new television deal from Turner and ESPN means that every single cable and satellite subscriber in the entire country is paying a jawdropping $30 a year for NBA games. I beleive the NBA's TV contract represented the actual peak of the market.
I'm not against ESPN -- or certainly FS1 or NBCSN or CBSSN or any other sports cable channel -- I just see the collapse of the cable and satellite bundle as a major story that most in the sports industry are ignoring. When the bubble officially pops -- and it may well have already popped without most realizing it -- it's going to change everything about sports -- team revenue and player salaries will plummet and the way that average fans consume sports will change rapidly.
ESPN isn't going to be the only company hit by the popping of the sports bubble either, but it will be the most significantly impacted by far. Let me explain. Let's use FS1 as an example. FS1 brings in around $1 a month in cable and subscriber revenue. This past year FS1, like virtually all cable channels, lost subscribers. FS1 lost 1.6 million subscribers last year, roughly a third of ESPN's losses. That's not ideal, but that loss cost FS1 $19.2 million in overall revenue compared to ESPN's loss of $350 million. NBCSN and CBSSN lose much less money because they're much smaller businesses and, quite frankly, don't make that much off their cable networks.
And it's not just sports, ESPN's in infinitely worse shape than any other cable network out there too because it makes more than any other channel off the current business model and because those channels don't have the billions in fixed costs that ESPN does. If CNN makes less money on subscriber revenue, they can spend less on news gathering. If AMC makes less money in subscriber fees they'll pay for fewer shows, but ESPN's entire business is predicated on the billions they owe for sports rights every year into the foreseeable future. ESPN made a bet that exclusive live sports rights would be the moat that protected its castle from all attackers. The problem is this, that moat flooded the castle instead.
Moreover, the sports businesses of Fox, NBC, and CBS are more protected because the vast majority of their best games are all on network TV, which may well return to primacy when it comes to sports. Look at the roster of games that Fox, NBC, and CBS have -- virtually all of the top draws air on the main broadcast networks. The NFL, the World Series, the Super Bowl, the SEC game of the week, the best college football games, Sunday Night Football, the big Olympic events. ESPN -- and Turner -- are the only two networks that put massive sporting events on cable. (The college football playoff, Monday Night Football, and most of the NBA's Eastern Conference playoffs air on ESPN, which is how ESPN justifies its massive cable and satellite subscription fees. Turner carries the majority of the NCAA Tournament games on cable as well.)
In theory it would make more sense for ESPN to just rely on ABC and switch its biggest games to that network, but the problem is, it can't. Not under the existing television contracts which promise cable and satellite companies exclusive big events on ESPN to justify the enormous cable and satellite fees.
So what happens if I'm right and the cable and satellite bundle is collapsing?
Couldn't ESPN go over the top to consumers?
Nope, that violates their currently existing cable and satellite contracts -- ESPN promised it wouldn't do this in order to get the companies to pay them so much money, Plus, it begs the larger question, if ESPN is going over the top to consumers, why wouldn't the leagues just try this directly themselves? Why do you need ESPN to be the middleman if you can handle distribution as well as they can? What's more, an over the top ESPN would need to be insanely expensive to justify their fixed costs, $20, $30 or $40 a month just for ESPN along. As if that weren't enough, ESPN would be caught in an intractable business problem, one that looks awfully familiar to print newspapers as the Internet rose online. You'd have to run two different businesses -- the cable and satellite ESPN, which would continue to lose subscribers, but still bring in most of your money -- and the over the top ESPN model, which cost much more and had infinitely fewer subscribers. As you promoted the over the top model then the cable and satellite companies would rebel and ask, "Why are we paying you so much to carry your network as part of our packages, we're cutting your channel so we can lower consumer costs."
So ESPN would lose all the Aunt Gladys's giving it money to buy sports rights who never watch sports. At the same time that the vast majority of people were not subscribing to its over the top offering.
Goodbye, business franchise.
I'm not trying to be alarmist here, but the simple fact is this -- I don't see how ESPN's business model makes sense at all by 2021.

The biggest business story in American sports this fall isn't the declining NFL ratings or anything that's happening on the field, court, or ice, it's the collapse in ESPN subscribers, which reflect a larger trend in the collapse of cable subscribers in general.
Yesterday Nielsen announced its subscriber numbers for November 2016 and those numbers were the worst in the history of ESPN's existence as a cable company -- the worldwide leader in sports lost 621,000 cable subscribers. That's the most subscribers ESPN has ever lost in a month according to Nielsen estimates and it represents a terrifying and troubling trend for the company, an acceleration of subscriber loss that represents a doubling of the average losses over the past couple of years, when ESPN has been losing in the neighborhood of 300,000 subscribers a month.
These 621,000 lost subscribers in the past month alone lead to a drop in revenue of over $52 million and continue the alarming subscriber decline at ESPN. Couple these subscriber declines with a 24% drop in Monday Night Football ratings this fall, the crown jewel of ESPN programming, and it's fair to call October of 2016 the worst month in ESPN's history. But this isn't just a story about ESPN, the rapid decline in cable subscribers is hitting every channel, sports and otherwise. It just impacts ESPN the most because ESPN costs every cable and satellite subscriber roughly $7 a month, over triple the next most expensive cable channel.
Yep, if you have a cable or satellite subscription, whether you watch ESPN or not, you're paying ESPN over $80 a year.
What does ESPN do with that money?
It buys sports rights.
Presently ESPN is on the hook for the following yearly sports rights payments: $1.9 billion a year to the NFL for Monday Night Football, $1.47 billion to the NBA, $700 million to Major League Baseball, $608 million for the College Football Playoff, $225 million to the ACC, $190 million to the Big Ten, $120 million to the Big 12, $125 million a year to the PAC 12, and hundreds of millions more to the SEC.
The total costs? According to SNL Kagan ESPN is on track to pay $7.3 billion in total rights fees in 2017. That's more than any company in America.
How does that content cost compare to revenue?
Well, let's be extremely conservative and assume that ESPN is going to lose 3 million subscribers this year. ESPN lost over 4 million subscribers last year and no month was as bad as October 2016 so this is probably being extremely generous. (The pace of decline at 621,000 a month would be nearly 7.5 million lost subscribers a year, but let's presume that this past month is just a bad outlier. The average number of lost subscribers over the past several years has been right at 3.5 million).
A loss of 3 million subscribers would leave ESPN with 86 million subscribers in 2017. That would be down roughly 15 million subscribers in the past five years alone. Given that ESPN makes right at $7 a month from every cable and satellite subscriber a year, that means ESPN's subscriber revenue would be $7.22 billion in 2017. Toss in an additional $1.8 billion or so in advertising revenue and ESPN's total revenue would be $9 billion. We don't know what the costs of running ESPN are -- employees, facilities, equipment, and the like have to cost a billion or more -- but it's fair to say that ESPN is probably still making money in 2017. Just nowhere near what they used to make.
But those sports rights costs are going up and those subscriber revenue numbers are going down.
So if we're very conservative and project that ESPN continues to lose 3 million subscribers a year -- well below the rate that they are currently losing subscribers -- then the household numbers would look like this over the next five years:
2017: 86 million subscribers
2018: 83 million subscribers
2019: 80 million subscribers
2020: 77 million subscribers
2021: 74 million subscribers
At 74 million subscribers -- Outkick's projection for 2021 based on the past five years of subscriber losses -- ESPN would be bringing in just over $6.2 billion a year in yearly subscriber fees at $7 a month. At $8 a month, assuming the subscriber costs per month keeps climbing, that's $7.1 billion in subscriber revenue. Both of those numbers are less than the yearly rights fees cost.
Uh oh.
It seems pretty clear that within five years ESPN will be bringing in less subscriber revenue than they've committed for sports rights.
Sure, advertising money and ESPN2 and ESPNU have to be factored in as well, but you'd also have to add in every other cost that ESPN has to run multiple networks, employee salaries, technology, everything that a major corporation with thousands of worldwide employees has to keep up. And, importantly, you also have to factor in this, ESPN's Monday Night Football contract expires at the end of 2021.
Right when current projections would have them hitting just 74 million subscribers. I wrote much of this in August, but it bears repeating given how awful this past month was for ESPN.

Poll: NFL Ratings Down Due To National Anthem Protests CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) '-- There are many reasons why the NFL's ratings are down in 2016. You may be dismissive of the very idea that the backlash to the national anthem protests, sparked by the 49ers' Colin Kaepernick, has played a role in the NFL's TV ratings, which have dropped by about 12 percent year-over-year. To continue to dismiss that is to blatantly ignore legitimate data on the subject.
A fresh poll from Seton Hall surveyed 841 adults across the U.S. Each respondent was asked to identify seven separate factors as a reason for the NFL ratings drop, allowing them to answer ''yes'' or ''no'' for each of them. The leading factor, according to the poll, was the national anthem protests, which scored ''yes'' at a rate of 56 percent.
Other answers also scored ''yes'' at a high rate, including 50 percent of ''yeses'' for coverage of the presidential election, 47 percent for the league's handling of domestic violence cases, 44 percent for the over-saturation of the market, 39 percent for increased interest in postseason baseball, and 33 percent for controversy over head injuries and player safety.

Interestingly enough, the lowest score, tied with player safety at 33 percent, was ''a decline in quality of play on the field.'' Many would cite this as the overriding factor to all of this, and it certainly is factoring in. It's easier to turn the games off for other reasons if the games aren't fun to watch in the first place.
The point here, however, is that there are many Americans out there who view the players' national anthem protest as a sign of disrespect to the American flag, the sanctity of which they take very seriously. Hundreds of fans have emailed me on the subject, and many of them agreed with Kaepernick's right to protest injustices but disagreed with his method of doing so.
In some circles, Kaepernick's protests have actually had the opposite effect, sparking discussions over the national anthem and patriotism rather than the issue that he wishes to raise awareness of among citizens, police violence against African-Americans. Many emailers have cited the NFL's decisions to not only allow players to protest the national anthem but disallow the Dallas Cowboys from honoring fallen police officers with a decal on their helmets as a ''tipping point'' for them to ultimately turn away from pro football.
Kaepernick certainly has a right to protest over that issue, just as now-former NFL viewers have the right to change the channel over what they view as blatant disrespect of the American flag and national anthem. The NFL has long been one of the country's most popular forms of escapist entertainment, and the injection of social and political issues into the broadcasts has turned a number of fans away. It may not be the only cause for the NFL's ratings decline, but it may be a bigger factor than you think.

During the speech, Clinton focused on the plans his wife has for the country, ignoring a new email controversy that has erupted. On Friday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that it is examining newly discovered emails belonging to Clinton's close aide, Huma Abedin. On today's AM Joy, Kurt Eichenwald stated the facts in the Comey email nothingburger in two minutes. This is about emails that were printed by a staffer, and did not come from Hillary Clinton herself. It's office work.
So Joy Reid asked Trump surrogate Cortes if he wanted to support politics that "criminalized the mundane."
CORTES: When you say it's mundane, let me tell you someone who doesn't agree, not from me. Carl Bernstein of Watergate fame, [laughter from panel] who knows quite a bit about political scandal. He said, this is, quote, a bombshell. He said it is unthinkable the Director of the FBI would take this action lightly. He believes it's a bombshell. I think most of the American public understands this is a bombshell.
EICHENWALD: I don't care what Carl Bernstein says.
Exactly. No one cares what Carl Bernstein has to say about email nothingburger. Cortes found a quote that agreed with his position and used it because he has nothing else.
This Friday "bombshell" absolutely fizzled when we discovered these were not Clinton's emails, not from her server, and apparently an effort by Comey to quiet down the wingnuts on his own staff.
Do stay until the end of this clip, to watch Cortes freak out when Joe Conason brings up Manafort, Russia, and a likely FBI investigation into foreign meddling in our election. It's a classic.

In an interview with CNN Bernstein admits the FBI would never ''reopen'' or announce a ''renewed investigation'' unless there was some very substantive information.
Remember, the new information does not surround Anthony Weiner, it surrounds communication between Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton, and their collective circle. Do not get distracted '' stay focused:

Is it a certainty that we won't learn before the election? I'm not sure it's a certainty we won't learn before the election.
One thing is, it's possible that Hillary Clinton might want to on her own initiative talk to the FBI and find out what she can, and if she chooses to let the American people know what she thinks or knows is going on. People need to hear from her'...
I think if she has information available to her from the FBI or any other source as to her knowledge of what these e-mails might be, hopefully she will let us know what they are and what is under discussion here.
Right now we're all talking in a vacuum but I want to add here that in the last, oh, 36, 48 hours, there has been an undercurrent of kind of speculative discussion among some national security people that something might surface in the next few days about e-mails, and I think the expectation in this chatter '-- and I took it as just chatter but informed chatter, to some extent '-- was that it would relate to another round of WikiLeaks e-mails, which our Justice Department people seem to be saying is not the case, but there has been some noise in the national security community the last day or two of this kind of possibility of some kind of revelation.
But this is her achilles heel and we have to remember that it also comes on the '-- back to the word heel '-- of the revelations about the Clinton Foundation. So the confluence of all of this is bad for her as it stands now but with some knowledge she might be able to stop, turn things around, and give us some idea of what's going on in a way we might not otherwise know, and also it's very possible that some members of congress very quickly are going to get an idea of what these e-mails are, and what this is all about, and for whatever purpose put some information out there'''....

"It's pretty strange to put something like that out with such little information right before an election," Clinton told supporters in Daytona Beach, Florida, where the crowd booed at the mention of Comey's letter. "In fact, it's not just strange, it's unprecedented and it's deeply troubling because voters deserve to get full and complete facts."
Clinton called on Comey to swiftly release more information, saying he must "explain everything right away, put it all right on the table."
Clinton also swiped at Republican rival Donald Trump, saying he's "doing his best to confuse, mislead and discourage the American people" over the issue.
"Of course, Donald Trump is already making up lies about this," Clinton said.
The Democratic nominee's comments here marked an escalation in the Clinton campaign's full-out war against Comey in the final 10 days of the election.
Earlier in the day, just hours after Comey made the stunning announcement on Friday that the FBI is examining newly unveiled emails that appear to be "pertinent" to the now-closed investigation into Clinton's private server, top campaign officials unleashed a blistering attack on the FBI director, accusing him of being irresponsibly "light on facts" and "heavy on innuendo."
On a conference call with reporters, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta accused Comey of failing to be "forthcoming with the facts." Podesta blasted both the timing and contents of the letter Comey sent to congressional leaders on Friday, summing the director's actions as "providing selective information."
Campaign manager Robby Mook echoed Podesta's call for more information from Comey and suggested that the FBI has now waded into political territory.
"The Justice Department's longstanding practice is: Don't do anything seen as trying to influence an election," Mook said. "It's completely unfair to Secretary Clinton and it's really unfair to the voters."
'Hillary's not going to be distracted'
The sharp criticism marked an extraordinary rebuke of the head of an agency historically known for its political independence. And it guarantees that Comey -- already a polarizing presence for his role in probing Clinton's email use as secretary of state -- will be a central political figure in the election's final days.
As Clinton prepared to fly to Florida for a two-day swing through the battleground state, Podesta was defiant: "We're not going to be distracted and Hillary's not going to be distracted in the final days of this election over nothing."
Both Podesta and Mook emphasized the possibility that the emails that the FBI is now examining -- uncovered as part of the bureau's investigation into Clinton aide Huma Abedin's estranged husband, Anthony Weiner -- may not reveal new information.
"Reports indicate that many of these emails are likely to be duplicates," Podesta said. "It's in fact entirely possible all the emails in question are just that -- duplicates."
Donald Trump continued to trumpet the news at a campaign stop in Golden, Colorado, Saturday afternoon, wondering if Clinton would keep Abedin as an adviser.
"Huma's been a problem," Trump said. "I wonder if Huma's going to stay there. I hope they haven't given Huma immunity because it seemed that everybody that walked down the sidewalk got immunity. She knows the real story. She knows what's going on."
Abedin, one of Clinton's closest confidantes, regularly travels with Clinton and was with the candidate on Friday when the FBI news broke. However, Abedin was notably absent on Saturday as Clinton traveled to Florida.
Comey was sworn in as FBI director in 2013 for a 10-year term. That means if Clinton were to win in November, Comey would serve under her administration unless she chose to remove him.
A Clinton aide later said Saturday that Clinton took the FBI news "like a champ." The aide added that Clinton and her top aides were well aware that the last two weeks of the campaign would not be entirely smooth and that Clinton's reaction reflected that.
"She is in a good state of mind," the aide added.
Sudden turn
The new attacks on Comey are a sudden turn for Clinton's campaign, which sang the FBI director's praises for his initial findings in the Clinton email case.
Clinton aides, in conversations with reporters and in statements, highlighted the fact that Comey was a Republican known for his fierce independence, touting him -- and his investigators -- as career professionals. Surrogates were told to highlight Comey's testimony to Congress and note his political affiliation and track record.
In an interview on CNN's "Situation Room" in July, Clinton press secretary Brian Fallon went after Republicans for criticizing Comey after the FBI concluded it would not press criminal charges against Clinton.
"It seems they were disappointed with the outcome of the FBI investigation so they decided to put the director in a hot seat and second-guess his decision," Fallon said at the time. "I think it is a bad look for House Republicans to be second-guessing a career prosecutor who is a registered Republican, No. 2 official at the Justice Department under George Bush and was even deputy council on the committee investigating the Clintons in the 1990s."
Ironically, the Clinton campaign now finds itself voicing similar concerns as some Republicans when it comes to the FBI's handling of emails uncovered in its Weiner investigation.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, an outspoken Trump supporter, wrote on Twitter Saturday: "If there are really more than 10,000 emails in the weiner-Abedin computer the FBI should release all Monday. Americans have a right to know," he wrote.
Gingrich added: "We should not be forced to vote with ten thousand or more emails still hidden by the FBI. John Podesta and Hillary Clinton are right."

FBI Director James Comey told his bureau that he broke with custom in alerting lawmakers that the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server was being reopened because of its political sensitivity.
In an internal memo obtained by Fox News, the beleaguered director noted that the FBI typically would not communicate with the public when reopening a case, according to a Department of Justice source. But Comey said he had to in this case because Clinton is seeking the White House in an election on Nov. 8.
''Of course we don't ordinarily tell Congress about ongoing investigations, but here I feel an obligation to do so given that I testified repeatedly in recent months that our investigation was completed,'' Comey wrote. "I also think it would be misleading to the American people were we not to supplement the record.
''At the same time, however, given that we do not know the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails, I don't want to create a misleading impression,'' Comey's letter continued. "In trying to strike that balance, in a brief letter, and in the middle of an election season, there is significant risk of being misunderstood, but I wanted you to hear directy from me about it."
The bombshell revelation that newly discovered emails had prompted a new look into whether Clinton or those around her had broken the law my mishandling sensitive information rocked the race for the White House Friday.
Comey informed key Republican and Democrat lawmakers that new emails had surfaced that were relevant to the investigation, and warranted a new look.
Comey announced in July that the FBI had wrapped up a year-long investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server for official business and concluded that while she was ''extremely careless,'' he could not recommend that the Justice Department seek an indictment. The decision was blasted by Republicans, and FoxNews.com reported earlier this month that career DOJ and FBI workers were furious.
Word of the server, at Clinton's home in Chappaqua, N.Y., first broke in early 2015. Clinton had used the private email server to conduct government business while serving from 2009-2013, but insisted that she handed over all work-related emails to the State Department.
The FBI investigation determined that thousands of messages that would later be marked classified by the State Department retroactively were on the server. Federal law makes it a crime for a government employee to possess classified information in an unsecure manner, and the relevant statute does not require a finding of intent.

From prior FOIA (Judicial Watch) document releases we already knew Huma Abedin was forwarding emails to her private account from the Clinton server.
However, buried in a New York Times article the following paragraph:
['...] A senior law enforcement official said that tens of thousands of emails belonging to Ms. Abedin were on Mr. Weiner's laptop, which the F.B.I. had obtained as part of its investigation into Mr. Weiner. About a month ago, a person familiar with the investigation said, F.B.I. agents seized the laptop as well as Mr. Weiner's iPad and cellphone. (link)
Speaking of buried, according to a New Yorker article apparently Loretta Lynch tried to leverage FBI Director James Comey into keeping the new details of the reopened investigation under wraps:

YouTubeFour years ago, the world learned the name Pussy Riot, a politically active Russian art collective whose members were all women. Members of that group staged a punk rock demonstration in a church in protest of Russian president Vladimir Putin and the Russian church's support of his presidential campaign.
Some members of the group, including founding Pussy Riot member Nadya Tolokonnikova, were arrested and charged with "hooliganism." They spent two years in prison, and during that time, Pussy Riot gained many supporters around the world. Some say their fame put pressure on Putin to release them.
But inside Russia, the protest movement is suffering, as some prominent opposition politicians have been killed. "A lot of Russian people who would consider political action for themselves, they think right now they would be killed," Tolokonnikova says. "Because it's not just words right now."
While she still creates art in protest of Vladimir Putin and his policies, Tolokonnikova has recently set her sights on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. She released a new song and music video called "Make America Great Again." (The video is here, but be aware: It is intense and includes scenes and imagery that will be disturbing to many viewers.)
Tolokonnikova says the U.S. presidential election is important for her as a Russian citizen. "American politics influence the world politics," she says. "In a lot of ways, [the U.S.] really interferes in other countries' politics. I'm not discussing is it a good or bad thing, but it is a thing, so that's why it will influence everybody else's lives outside America."

Updated | The disclosure by the Federal Bureau of Investigation late on Friday, October 28 that it had discovered potential new evidence in its inquiry into Hillary Clinton's handling of her personal email when she was Secretary of State has virtually nothing to do with any actions taken by the Democratic nominee, according to government records and an official with knowledge of the investigation, who spoke to Newsweek on condition of anonymity.
The revelation that the FBI has discovered additional emails convulsed the political world, and led to widespread (and erroneous) claims and speculation. Many Republicans proclaimed that the discovery suggests Clinton may have broken the law, while Democrats condemned FBI Director James Comey for disclosing this information less than two weeks before the election, claiming he did it for political purposes.
Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, said the development showed his opponent had engaged in corruption ''on a scale we have never seen before,'' while Clinton called for the FBI to release all of the information it has, saying the American people have a right to know everything.

The truth is much less explosive. There is no indication the emails in question were withheld by Clinton during the investigation, the law enforcement official told Newsweek, nor does the discovery suggest she did anything illegal. Also, none of the emails were to or from Clinton, the official said. Moreover, despite the widespread claims in the media that this development had prompted the FBI to ''reopen'' of the case, it did not; such investigations are never actually closed, and it is common for law enforcement to discover new information that needs to be examined.

As of Friday night Comey had only said the bureau is seeking to determine whether these newly discovered emails involved classified material.
The FBI found the new evidence during an unrelated inquiry into former Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner regarding an allegation that he sent illicit, sexual text messages to an underage girl in North Carolina. In the course of that investigation, agents seized a laptop computer Weiner shared with his wife, Huma Abedin, a longtime Clinton aide who has already been questioned by the FBI during its investigation. The bureau found the emails now being examined on this shared device, which agents obtained some time ago.
This new evidence relates to how Abedin managed her emails. She maintained four email accounts'--an unclassified State Department account, another on the clintonemail.com domain and a third on Yahoo. The fourth was linked to her husband's account; she used it to support his activities when he was running for Congress, investigative records show. Abedin, who did not know Clinton used a private server for her emails, told the bureau in an April interview that she used the account on the clintonemail.com domain only for issues related to the Secretary's personal affairs, such as communicating with her friends. For work-related records, Abedin primarily used the email account provided to her by the State Department.
Because Clinton preferred to read documents on paper rather than on a screen, emails and other files were often printed out and provided to her either at her office or home, where they were delivered in a diplomatic pouch by a security agent. Abedin, like many State Department officials, found the government network technology to be cumbersome, and she had great trouble printing documents there, investigative records show. As a result, she sometimes transferred emails from her unclassified State Department account to either her Yahoo account or her account on Clinton's server, and printed the emails from there. It is not clear whether she ever transferred official emails to the account she used for her husband's campaign.
Abedin would use this procedure for printing documents when she received emails she believed Clinton needed to see and when the Secretary forwarded emails to her for printing. Abedin told the FBI she would often print these emails without reading them. Abedin printed a large number of emails this way, in part because, investigative records show, other staff members considered her Clinton's ''gatekeeper'' and often sent Abedin electronic communications they wanted the Secretary to see.
This procedure for printing documents, the government official says, appears to be how the newly discovered emails ended up on the laptop shared by Abedin and her husband. It is unclear whether any of those documents were downloaded onto the laptop off of her personal email accounts or were saved on an external storage device, such as a flash drive, and then transferred to the shared computer. There is also evidence that the laptop was used to send emails from Abedin to Clinton; however, none of those emails are the ones being examined by the FBI. Moreover, unless she was told by Abedin in every instance, Clinton could not have known what device her aide was using to transmit electronic information to her.
If the FBI determines that any of the documents that ended up on the shared device were classified, Abedin could be deemed to have mishandled them. In order to prove that was a criminal offense, however, investigators would have to establish that Abedin had intended to disclose the contents of those classified documents, or that she knew she was mishandling that information.
If the documents were not classified, no crime was committed. But either way, this discovery has embarrassed Clinton, even though there is no evidence at this point suggesting she has been implicated in any potential wrongdoing.
According to a letter Comey sent to the chairs of several Congressional committee on Friday, he learned of these new emails on Thursday, October 27.
His decision to immediately reveal this discovery was not a partisan act, although it was a horribly mishandled one. Arguably, he had to issue his letter because of previous statements he had made to Congress. In September, he testified that the bureau had completed its review of the evidence in the case and found no crimes had been committed. With the discovery of the information on the laptop shared by Weiner and Abedin, that sworn statement was no longer true, and there was new evidence that needed to be examined. As a result, Comey felt he was obligated to inform the committees as quickly as possible that his previous statement was now incorrect.
However, the letter he sent could well damage the reputation of the FBI as an apolitical organization for years to come. Given that Comey also testified that his agents would examine any new evidence that emerged, Democrats will undoubtedly argue that issuing a letter repeating that point was unnecessary.
In a communication to bureau employees, Comey described his letter to Congress as an attempt to thread a needle '' amend his testimony while not disclosing details of an ongoing investigation. The combination, however, created a circumstance where politicians are filling in the blanks, creating a storyline of corruption that was not justified by the evidence developed by the bureau. Making it worse, the communication to the bureau employees is far more detailed than what Comey issued to Congress.
''There is a significant risk of being misunderstood,'' Comey told the bureau employees in the communication, explaining why he was so vague in his letter to Congress. ''It would be misleading to the American people were we not to supplement the record. At the same time, however, given that we don't know the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails, I don't want to create a misleading impression.''
Unfortunately, by trying to have things both ways '' revealing the change in circumstances while remaining vague about what the agents know '' Comey has created that misleading impression that could change the outcome of a presidential election, an act that, if uncorrected, will undoubtedly go down as one of the darkest moments in the bureau's history.

CHICAGO '' Sheer panic erupted on an American Airlines flight after part of the Boeing 767 went up in flames during takeoff at O'Hare Friday; luckily both passengers and crew escaped the aircraft with only minor injuries.
Gary Schiavone was flying to Miami with his wife to visit their daughter, sitting in row 31 near the back of the plane when he heard the explosion.
''First it was a clunk, after the clunk the explosion, and then the plane stopped real fast and we all started exiting,'' Schiavone said. ''Right now I just want to get home.''
American Airlines Flight 383 aborted takeoff due to an "engine-related mechanical issue," the company said.
''You hear a loud blast on the right side people start screaming there was fire and smoke coming in,'' said Hector Cardenas, who was sitting in the front of the plane.
As you can imagine, it was a bit chaotic evacuating the plane--but all 161 passengers, 9 crew members, and a dog--made it off safely in less than two minutes.
Within a minute and a half, fire crews were on scene and spraying foam on the flames, knowing right away how serious this situation was. And even fire officials admit it could have been devastating had that plane lifted off the ground.
''A plane just taking off, going to Miami, was fully-loaded with 43,000 pounds of fuel, a substantial amount of fuel on the aircraft, and it was leaking,'' said CFD Chief Timothy Sampey.
20 people were transported to local hospitals. Of those adult patients, two had smoke inhalation--the rest ankle injuries and scrapes and bruises.
Some of them were able to get out on another flight to Miami Friday night, while others say they are traumatized and plan to reschedule their trips for some other time. Insofar as their luggage is concerned, officials aren't sure if it's salvageable.
A spokesperson for American Airlines released a statement saying:
American Airlines flight 383, a 767 bound for Miami, aborted take off due to an engine-related mechanical issue. The 161 passengers and 9 crew deplaned on the runway...
All passengers onboard flight 383 have been bused back to the terminal. Seven passengers and one flight attendant reported minor injuries and were transported to the hospital to be evaluated. We are taking care of our customers and crew and are re-accommodating our passengers on another flight to Miami this evening.
The National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating the incident.
A federal official told the Associated Press the plane suffered an 'uncontained engine failure'.
That happens when engine parts break off and are spewed outside of it.

A string of strong swing state polls, an expanding battleground map and the end of the presidential debates had Clinton -- and her aides -- feeling good about the final days of the campaign. The normally careful candidate was dancing on television, celebrating her birthday with gifts of tequila and seemingly having fun during a campaign that, at times, seemed to be a slog for her.
Then her nagging email controversy roared back.
News broke on the flight between New York and Iowa that the FBI was reviewing new emails related to Clinton's personal server, bringing an issue they had assumed was behind them back into the campaign.
Later in the day, those same aides learned the emails being examined are part of an investigation into Weiner, the estranged husband of Clinton's longtime aide Huma Abedin. The two separated over the summer after a sexting incident.
Dumbfounded looks
Clinton's flying campaign headquarters, though, kept the nominee, her top aides and the press cordoned off from the outside world. The plane's unreliable WiFi wasn't functioning at all on Friday, making it impossible for journalists to know what was going on outside their tube in the sky 30,000 feet over the Midwest.
Before the news broke, Clinton's top aides spoke to reporters in flight, touting the fact that their candidate planned to visit Arizona, a traditionally red state, and early voting that proved their base of women, minority and young voters were turning out in record numbers.
After reporters peppered the aides with questions, the conversation ended and reporters went to write their stories about a confident Clinton going to Arizona.
Then the wireless flashed on for a mere minute and phones buzzed.
Reporters informed Clinton's top aides traveling on the plane about the FBI's updated investigation, news that was met with dumbfounded looks from Clinton's staffers who quickly retreated to huddle in the front of the plane.
Clinton and her top campaign aides had no advance warning that the FBI would be issuing its letter to Congress, an aide said at the end of the day, meaning the Democratic nominee learned of Weiner's involvement the way everyone else did.
Clinton's albatross
Weiner has been a pariah in Clinton's world since he was forced to resign from Congress because he sexted multiple women while he was married to Clinton's closest aide. The same sexting compulsion continued throughout Weiner's failed New York mayoral race, and after years of trying to make their relationship work, Abedin and Weiner split.
The fact that Weiner has now been connected to Clinton's email controversy shocked those close to Clinton and the scene on the plane was unlike any other day Clinton's charter has criss-crossed the country.
When Clinton's plane touched down in Iowa, a state that has been an albatross around Clinton's neck for almost a decade, reporters quickly exited so they could attempt to shout questions at Clinton as she deplaned.
Except the Democratic nominee decided to stay put.
Celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, who has been traveling with the campaign for days, was invited to the front of the cabin to snap pictures of Clinton upon landing, likely the same time Clinton's aides were getting the full picture of what had just been dropped on their campaign.
Betsy Ebeling, Clinton's childhood friend, joined Clinton on the campaign trail Friday, seemingly sitting with Clinton as she learned about the news.
Clinton deplaned around 30 minutes after her plane touched down in Iowa, greeting shouted questions with a simple wave and smile.
Clinton didn't mention the FBI investigation at her first event of the day in Cedar Rapids, instead focusing on Donald Trump's treatment of women.
"This is a man who relished making women feel terrible about themselves, in every possible way," Clinton said. "Someone who thinks belittling and objectifying women make him a bigger man. He goes after dignity and self worth of women and I don't think there is a woman anywhere who doesn't know what that feels like."
Outside the event, a protester attempted to disrupt Clinton.
"Hillary Clinton broke the law," he yelled, barely loud enough to be heard.
Clinton wrapped up speech and she was off, headed back to the airport.
Reporters jittery
As the motorcade rolled to the steps leading to her cabin, Clinton quickly exited and bolted up the steps, back to the confines of her same wireless-less plane cabin.
Reporters on the plane, anxious for any developments, jittered at the mere site of a Clinton aide headed toward the press, and when Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton's spokeswoman, walked toward the back of the plane, the press cabin jerked with energy.
It was a false alarm. Palmieri was just grabbing a piece of apple pie and vanilla ice cream.
Clinton again declined to mention the story in Des Moines, but nodded to the way this presidential race has never ceased to surprise.
"We have got to keep our foot on the gas. Donald Trump says he can still win and he is right," Clinton told supporters. "You know this has been such an unusual election. I don't take any place, anyone or anything for granted."
The choir room presser
Clinton, though, wasn't done with her crazy day.
As reporters packed up to make their way back to the bus in Des Moines, a Clinton advance staffer urged people to stay put.
Minutes later, the same staffer announced that the traveling press should head out and the reporters wearily made their way to the bus.
At the last minute, though, the staffer directed the press to a side door and into a choir room at Theodore Roosevelt High School.
Five minutes later, Clinton was standing before steamed American flags with dozens of band and choir trophies in her line of sight.
"We are 11 days out from perhaps the most important national election of our lifetimes. Voting is already underway in our country," Clinton said. "So the American people deserve to get the full and complete facts immediately."
Clinton said that no one from her campaign has talked to the FBI, but she implored the bureau to release all the info it could.
As for Weiner's connection, Clinton chalked them up to "rumors."
"We don't know what to believe. And I'm sure there will be even more rumors," Clinton said. "That's why it is incumbent upon the FBI to tell us what they're talking about."
After her press secretary shouted "thank you all," Clinton was ushered out, laughing at the suggestion that the controversy could sink her campaign.
Reporters ran to the already idling bus, shoving bags and gear into any open seat.
After almost losing Clinton's motorcade, the coach rolled away from the high school with its horn blaring, signaling an end to one of the campaign's most unpredictable days.

FBI Director James Comey told his bureau he broke with custom in alerting lawmakers that the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server was being reopened because of its political sensitivity.
In an internal memo obtained by Fox News, the beleaguered director noted that the FBI typically would not communicate with the public when reopening a case, according to a Department of Justice source. But Comey said he had to in this case because Clinton is seeking the White House in an election on Nov. 8.
''Of course we don't ordinarily tell Congress about ongoing investigations, but here I feel an obligation to do so given that I testified repeatedly in recent months that our investigation was completed,'' Comey wrote. I also think it would be misleading to the American people were we not to supplement the record.
''At the same time, however, given that we do not know the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails, I don't want to create a misleading impression,'' Comey's letter continued. ''In trying to strike that balance, in a brief letter, and in the middle of an election season, there is significant risk of being misunderstood, but I wanted you to hear directy from me about it.''
The bombshell revelation that newly discovered emails had prompted a new look into whether Clinton or those around her had broken the law my mishandling sensitive information rocked the race for the White House Friday.
Comey informed eight Republican lawmakers that new emails had surfaced that were relevant to the investigation, and warranted a new look.
Comey announced in July that the FBI had wrapped up a year-long investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server for official business and concluded that while she was ''extremely careless,'' he could not recommend that the Justice Department seek an indictment. The decision was blasted by Republicans, and FoxNews.com reported earlier this month that career DOJ and FBI workers were furious.
Word of the server, at Clinton's home in Chappaqua, N.Y., first broke in early 2015. Clinton had used the private email server to conduct government business while serving from 2009-2013, but insisted that she handed over all work-related emails to the State Department.
The FBI investigation determined that thousands of messages that would later be marked classified by the State Department retroactively were on the server. Federal law makes it a crime for a government employee to possess classified information in an unsecure manner, and the relevant statute does not require a finding of intent.

Did the Clinton Foundation, for all its good works, serve as a giant slush fund?
That question has surged to the forefront of the campaign in the wake of another Wikileaks dump, and one of the biggest accusers turns out to be Chelsea Clinton.
The Chelsea criticism is a bombshell, one that exploded with enough force that it propelled the lead story in both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal and an above-the-fold piece in the Washington Post.
This is stolen material, as Hillary Clinton's campaign regularly reminds us, but it echoes what the foundation's harshest critics have long argued: that there was an amorphous line at best between fundraising for charitable projects and lucrative income for Bill Clinton and those around him.
Now we have the former president's daughter, whose name is on the foundation, accusing his aides of ''hustling'' business to win clients at foundation events. We have Chelsea insisting that these aides were taking ''significant sums of money from my parents personally.''
And we have longtime Hillary loyalist Huma Abedin concerned about the former secretary of State promising to attend a foundation event in Morocco at the request of its king, who had just promised a $12-million donation to the foundation. ''She created this mess and she knows it,'' Abedin wrote.
As the Times puts it, ''In the years before Hillary Clinton announced she would run again for president, her top aides expressed profound concerns in internal emails about how foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation and Bill Clinton's own moneymaking ventures would affect Mrs. Clinton's political future.''
Most voters aren't going to drill down into the details. But all this plays into perhaps the most damaging narrative against her, that she and her husband skirt ethical rules, are not trustworthy, are cashing in on public service and are too close to big donors and corporations that help support their lifestyle.
As with the earlier dump in which top advisers challenged Hillary's political instincts and refusal to apologize for the email scandal, these messages pack a punch because they are from people who are within the couple's orbit.
The same goes for a memo about ''Bill Clinton Inc.'' from Doug Band, a top aide and then a key player at the Clinton Foundation. He said part of his job was securing ''in-kind services for the President and his family '-- for personal travel, hospitality, vacation and the like.''
As the Post puts it: ''Band also detailed a circle of enrichment in which he raised money for the Clinton Foundation from top-tier corporations such as Dow Chemical and Coca-Cola that were clients of his firm, Teneo, while pressing many of those same donors to provide personal income to the former president.''
Band wrote, for instance, that Teneo's partners had raised more than $8 million for the foundation and $3 million in speaking fees for Bill Clinton'--and that he'd lined up deals that could pay the former president $66 million over the next nine years.
(Band, in an earlier leaked email, dismissed Chelsea as a ''spoiled brat kid,'' but it seems she was trying to bring some accountability to the operation.)
In one example cited by the Journal, businessman Declan Kelly, a friend of Bill, introduced him to a top UBS Group executive, Bob McCann. ''Mr. Kelly subsequently asked Mr. Mccann to support the foundation'...[and] also encouraged Mr. Mccann to invite President Clinton to give several paid speeches, which he has done.'' The take from those speeches: $1.5 million.
At some point, you have to ask: How many millions did the Clintons need to lead a luxurious lifestyle? And why risk how bad this would look as Hillary was gearing up to run for her husband's old job?
Of course, she is running against Donald Trump, who flaunts a gold-plated existence and has run into legal problems with his own foundation. But he has an actual business, and much of the Clintons' income was tied to the family charity.
This is not going to swing the election. But with Trump having gone several days without saying something controversial, the news environment, however briefly, has turned against Clinton in this final stretch.

The FBI is reviewing a new batch of Hillary Clinton emails, bureau director James Comey said in a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday.
"In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation '... I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation," he wrote.
The politically-explosive revelation, which came just 11 days before Election Day, appeared to catch the Clinton campaign by surprise.
"No idea," a top Clinton campaign spokesperson told NBC News.
Tim Kaine, Clinton's vice presidential running mate, who was at an early voting site in Tallahassee on Friday told reporters "gotta read a little more, gotta read a little more" before continuing on.
But the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee quickly applauded the FBI's move.

"The FBI's decision to reopen its investigation into Secretary Clinton reinforces what the House Judiciary Committee has been saying for months: the more we learn about Secretary Clinton's use of a private email server, the clearer it becomes that she and her associates committed wrongdoing and jeopardized national security," their statement read.

Comey, who is also a Republican, took a lot of heat in September for his agency's decision to not press criminal charges in the investigation into Clinton's use of a private email sever.
Documents related to the case were released just before the Labor Day weekend and included a summary of Clinton's July interview with the FBI about her private email server, as well as a detailed investigative summary of the case.
The FBI language in the letter to Congress made it clear that new evidence had been discovered and thus will be reviewed '-- meaning FBI agents will read these emails. It is unusual for the FBI to tell Congress it is looking over newly discovered evidence in a criminal inquiry that was otherwise closed.
The news comes as Clinton has been leading Donald Trump in the polls.
Trump, at an event in New Hampshire on Friday, responded to breaking news by praising the FBI for having "the courage to right the horrible mistake they made" earlier in the summer.
"I need to open with a very critical breaking news announcement," Trump said to cheers that at times drowned out his remarks. "The FBI has just sent a letter to Congress informing them that they have discovered new emails pertaining to the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's investigation."
"I have great respect for the fact that the FBI and DOJ are now willing to have the courage to right the horrible mistake they made," said Trump, who had recently been sounding the alarm on the campaign trail to "investigate the investigation" into Clinton's server.
"This was a grave miscarriage of justice," the Republican nominee said, relishing the best news he got just minutes before taking the stage in New Hampshire. Of that "miscarriage," Trumps said he hopes "it is about to be corrected."
