“Advanced persistent threat” means an adversary with sophisticated levels of expertise and significant resources that allow it, through the use of multiple different attack vectors, including, but not limited to, cyber, physical, and deception, to generate opportunities to achieve its objectives that are typically to establish and extend its presence within the information technology infrastructure of organizations for purposes of exfiltrating information or to undermine or impede critical aspects of a mission, program, or organization or place itself in a position to do so in the future.

(A) Before January 1, 2027, “covered model” means either of the following:
(i) An artificial intelligence model trained using a quantity of computing power greater than 10^26 integer or floating-point operations, the cost of which exceeds one hundred million dollars ($100,000,000) when calculated using the average market prices of cloud compute at the start of training as reasonably assessed by the developer.
(ii) An artificial intelligence model created by fine-tuning a covered model using a quantity of computing power equal to or greater than three times 10^25 integer or floating-point operations, the cost of which, as reasonably assessed by the developer, exceeds ten million dollars ($10,000,000) if calculated using the average market price of cloud compute at the start of fine-tuning.

Elon Musk blinks first, bowing to pressure in Brazil to reopen X
The social network X, formerly known as Twitter, said Friday that it had taken steps to comply with demands issued by the Brazilian Supreme Court to end the impasse that has severed the company from one of its most active markets. These included naming a representative in the country and blocking accounts that Moraes had accused of propagating misinformation and undermining Brazilian democracy. Much of the company’s fines have also been paid off.

George Soros poised to control Audacy
George Soros is poised to take a massive stake in the nation’s second-largest radio company, which owns more than 220 stations nationwide, according to court filings and sources close to the situation.
The left-leaning billionaire’s Soros Fund Management has bought up $400 million of debt in Audacy — the No. 2 US radio broadcaster behind iHeartMedia with stations including New York’s WFAN and 1010 WINS, as well as Los Angeles-based KROQ, according to bankruptcy filings.
One insider close to the situation, noting that he was a Republican, said he believed it was possible Soros was buying the stake to exert influence on public opinion in the months leading up to the 2024 presidential election.
“This is scary,” the source said.

Boeing BOTG
Boeing in Washington State (and in California and Oklahoma) have let all their contractor engineers go and now we hear they talking about furloughing the direct employee engineers for one week each month to save cash flow.

I'm at Bell Helicopter near Fort Worth but have buddies from several other aircraft companies calling me looking for a new gig as other companies cut or prepare to cut.

Casey, Warren Raise Alarms About Kroger’s Use of Digital Price Tags, Warn of Grocery Giant’s “Surge Pricing” Causing Price Gouging and Hurting Consumers | Senator Bob Casey
Many grocery chains, including Kroger, have rapidly expanded their use of ESLs in recent years. Kroger began using the technology in 2018 and has since expanded it to 500 stores nationwide. ESLs may help Kroger extract maximum profits from consumers at a time when Americans are dealing with the cost of grocery prices: high grocery prices are a leading concern among Americans who are concerned about inflation.
Dynamic pricing allows corporations to price gouge and suddenly raise the cost of goods without warning. Kroger has also proposed to place facial-recognition cameras on its digital shelves that can make different offers to shoppers based on their age, gender or potentially their race and other personal characteristics. The Senators warned Kroger executives about the harms of dynamic price gouging and urged the corporation to put consumers over profits.

Exploding Pagers Cap Code BOTG
Listening to the latest episode John kept wanting to know how and or what would trigger the explosion. As a former pager company owner and techie if I was to do this here's what would happen.
Each pager will receive on a frequency and inside the memory is a cap code, treat the Cap code as your ESN. Most pages can accept more than one Cap code and it's this is what could trigger it. You would install the explosive attach a trigger mechanism to the speaker and with a circuit have it look at the speakers voltage response to the page. A cap code in position 1 would beep different than a cap code in position 2. It's this difference that could make it trigger. For a huge group call the single Cap code is done for hospitals fire departments and agencies that need to alert everybody at once.
So you program all the pagers with a additional single Cap code in position 2 which beeps different than a normal page from position 1, assign a phone number to the second cap code.. make the phone call on the number... boom.

Zoomers
Zoomer work ethic BOTG
Hey John and Adam,
I liked the
segment on the zoomers not wanting to work. Being a zoomer I can say
that there sure is a lot of us that just want to make enough to get a
fancy car, but still live at home.
The
“digital detox day” is a real thing that zoomers use as an excuse all
the time. I go into the office 5 days a week and so many people need a
“mental health” day to WFH and skate by. …women especially.
BUT
John not all hope is lost! I got a job at Publix when I was 14! The
issue is us zoomers want to work s least as possible but look as rich as
possible on instagram.
Love you guys!

Hezbollah's media office said on Tuesday that Israel was dropping leaflets with a "very dangerous" barcode on them onto Lebanon's eastern Bekaa Valley, warning that scanning the code by phone would "withdraw all information" from any device.
Word is that IDF will be going into Lebanon
